Tonight we watched I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997).

My 10 year old daughter is starting to recognise some common horror tropes.

This is what we’ve seen with horror elements so far: -

Addams Family I and II (1991/93)
Alien (1979)
The Amazing Mr Blunden (1972)
Babysitter I and II (2017/22)
Beetlejuice (1988)
Dr Who (2005-)
Five Nights At Freddy’s (2023)
Fright Night (2011)
Gremlins I and II (1984/90)
The Haunting (1999)
Hocus Pocus I and II (1993/2022)
I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)
It I and II (2017/19)
The Lost Boys (1987)
M3GAN (2022)
Prey (2022)
Stranger Things (2016-)
Wednesday (2022-)
The Thing (1982)

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions. We will wade through them as best we can: -

reply

So how did your daughter react? Anything you want to share?

Signed, million man.

reply

As usual, she delighted in the fact that every jump scare got me. She also laughed the classic, ‘Hello?’ line.

She didn’t understand the motivation behind killing innocent victims.

reply

Which innocent victims?

reply

Maybe Max? In-universe, it seems he was killed because he perhaps knew too much after the confrontation with Barry.

Helen's sister and the cop were killed simply because they got in the way.

reply

I forgot about Max.

reply

Max, the cop and the bitchy older sister.

reply

Very good movie. I really enjoyed the cast.
Jennifer LOVE Hewitt was Soooo hot!

reply

JLH and SMG - what’s not to like?

reply

If you choose to watch the sequel, can you please point out to your daughter that it's set one year after the first film and should therefore be called I Still Know What You Did Two Summers Ago.

Yes, it's a crap title. But it's accurate.

Me: bothered by trivial things since at least 1998.

reply

JACK BLACK IS A STONED ISLANDER....IT'S A GEM.

reply

Playing himself then.

reply

Or the title of the title refers to the events of the first movie when they "killed" him a second time.

reply

I’ll give you our verdict once we’ve seen it 👍

reply

I Know What You Did Last Summer Again?

reply

Something like that, yeah.

reply

It is the sort of thing she would question, lol.

reply

I have I Know What You Did Last Summer and have the Stealbook type of cover it came in, it might be Criterion, but in any event, the best part of this movie was Ryan Phillippe. Absolute BEST. They just plowed into this fisherman and knocked him probably 50 feet in the air and all this dude can think about is the BMW being damaged 😂

reply

He's hilarious in the movie. Love the "shit-run-over-twice" line as well.

reply

😂

reply

I liked it when JLH knocks on the door and when it doesn’t instantly get answered SMG says, “Well that didn’t work” and starts to walk away.

reply

😂

reply

C’mon, it’s a nice car.

reply

YOU TWO ARE BUILDING QUITE THE LIST THERE....EXCELLENT WORK.👍🏻

reply

It’s an education.

reply

Was it as cheesy as everyone said?

reply

Nah, it was good, but then they began treading in sequel territory and went downhill. They should've just left this as a one and done movie with no sequels. No Ryan Phillippe = No Good

reply

No, it wasn’t too bad.

reply

I think it was 1997.

reply

You are correct - I have amended the error 👍

Hi, has your daughter seen this: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089908/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_in_0_q_return%2520to%2520oz

I found it particularly scary when I watched it growing up.

reply

Yes, she saw it about 5 years ago and absolutely loved it.
