Do you believe articles that claim a horror movie is so violent that it had people walking out?

"Terrifier 3" had some early screenings and some articles are stating that people were so disgusted that there have been walkouts. I'm always questioning these things because it's feels like a marketing ploy. They even claim one person vomited.

How do they know people left because they were disgusted and didn't leave because they realized they weren't interested or thought it was stupid? How would someone walk into "Terrifier 3" and not know what they were getting into after the first two films?

reply

No. Today's "horror" audiences are conditioned for this kind of gore fest.

reply

I'm not even sure how you can make a true horror movie anymore.
It honestly feels like we've seen it all before...Aliens, Demons,Slashers, Mutants...surprise me!Its a tough genre to write nowadays.

reply

There are still people who scare easily. I know a few personally.

But the majority of us have been desensitised to violence & gore.

Personally, I have not been genuinely scared by a horror movie since I was in my mid-teens.

A few jump scares here & there but those don't count cause they basically just startle you

It's the equivalence of someone tickling you to make you laugh.

reply

True!
My great lifelong friend Annie is a huge scaredy cat.

Once at a house party I drove out for pizza, beer and a couple VHS rentals.

When I put the movie into the VCR I told her it was ‘A Texas Love Story’ but it was actually The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 😆

She is still slightly pissed at me to this day lol!

reply

OMG, you're so diabolical! 😆

reply

But there is always someone who's going to be offended at everything.

reply

Sad but true.
We sure do seem to have a lot of crybabies walking around.

Also, I have blocked and reported you because being offended is totally Fonzie now👍

reply

In 1973 when The EXORCIST came out, they had that disclaimer, YES, but also, in 1973, the audiences had never seen a movie like that unlike in 2024 when they're a dime a dozen and moviegoers are desensitized to it

reply

That's how I feel as well. I don't believe that people have sheltered themselves that much from horror movies in the last 50 years.

reply

Certainly not if it's the third installment in the franchise...

reply

Terrifier 3? That looks like Noseybonk with a santa hat on going around stabbing people. How could anyone take that seriously? Let alone be genuinely scared?

reply

No one takes it seriously, they're just don't like violence... or they're just making it all up.

reply

I'm pretty sure the audience ate the bad concession pizza or the milk shake maker had a but of ecoli...

Someone get the health inspector!

reply

Maybe it's over exaggerated in the numbers but I've witnessed walk outs seeing horror movies in theaters. I remember it happening during The Hills Have Eyes and Last House on the Left Remakes.

reply

I've seen people walk out of many movies, but there are different reasons why they would. I doubt anyone asks them why when they leave.

reply

No doubt. When I saw the Last House on the Left the walkout happened during the rape scene. I know why those people left and I still have a hard time watching that scene. I usually skip it whenever I watch the movie.

this youtube reviewer says two people fainted at the screening she attended.
