Spooky season? Tell your cats it's Squirrel Awareness Month!

Happy October! Only 17 days until new Christmas movies!

People complain about retailers and commercial interests pushing Christmastime earlier and earlier. I like it when the Christmas stuff comes out early. It puts me in a better mood and seems to make people happier.

reply

They complain and then wait until the last minute to do their shopping and put up the decorations.

reply

When retailers start pushing "Christmas" in September or October it cheapens and trivializes what should be a special time of year. By the time December 25 rolls around everyone is so sick of this stuff. I've actually heard people say that they will be glad when the holidays are over. How sad! Take away the holiday season and then there's nothing to look forward to.
December 1 is early enough to begin promoting "Christmas." We don't need to be hearing 24-hour "Christmas" music in November (there is a local radio station that actually does this), or seeing the commercials, movies or store displays. The same goes for Halloween. There is no reason to put up Halloween candy displays in July.

(I put "Christmas" in quotations because what they are promoting is not the holiday. Its all about greed, crass consumerism, materialism and profit.)

Save the holiday season.

I knew you would be here making this point STS. I respect your counter-argument.

reply

I'm glad to hear you enjoy Christmas. My point is there can be too much of a good thing. It comes only once a year and the anticipation is what makes it all the more satisfying once it arrives. Having to see and hear this stuff ad nauseum for three months ruins it. And it's all about materialism and money, not the actual holiday.
Pick a favorite food. Would you want to eat it, three meals a day, week after week? It would no longer be your favorite food. You would be so sick of it.
When Halloween is being promoted in July and "Christmas" in October, these days are no longer special. It becomes routine and boring, and no different from the rest of the year.

Save the holiday season.

Im gonna rewatch the whole saw franchise cuz why not?

reply

I found those movies, much like the case with the Elm Street series, to be a case of diminishing returns. I only really liked the first one, the sequels were sort of entertaining but silly.
