Wow, checked out the current in-theAter features

Its all either kid stuff, horror, cornball trumped-up dramas, female heroines of one sort or another.

I'd go watch megalopolis, but it looks like grandiose horsepoop about a super man architect who saves the world with his magnificent vision. Expected more & better out of FF Coppola.

One that looked kind of interesting is the thriller Blink Twice. Anyone seen that ?

And yes, I'm a crabby old fucker. It is what it is.

I love horror movies and I’m fine with heroines but I don’t pay much attention to in-theater films anymore.
I only go to the movies once a year, streaming has become too vast and easy, so I just rent from home…cheap drinks and snacks plus NO driving.

Movie theaters are in big trouble now, we can rent a new movie for 25 bucks and not leave the house.

I still like the experience. But the pickins' are slim, geared mainly to the young & a low-brow audience. Basically, commoditized from stem to stern.

I used to have a fun ritual with friends and family. We’d pop into a diner or fast food joint and then catch a movie together a few times a month.

Seems like times have changed.
Like the world has changed.

I get free cinema tickets because of a particular bank account that I have, so we go about 6 times a year, but if it wasn’t for these tickets, we’d probably only go about once a year too ☹️

reply

Yeah, it's all upside down now!

Tickets, concessions and gasoline for a family of 3-4 is like a hundred + dollars.
We just rent a recent movie for twenty dollars now. It's not quite the same experience but we can light the fireplace and as a bonus there are NO annoying people.

I feel bad for theaters but I'm going to sit on my couch and stream.

We missed you on the podcast tonight.

I had trouble getting in, I don't know why.

They asked if I’d seen the films and I said, “No, which is like saying ‘the dog ate my homework and then the immigrant ate my dog’”. It’ll probably get edited out, lol.

There is lots of retro showings of great films out there if you search for them.

That's true. I live in Chicago - we have the Music Box Theatre, a few other art houses, Chicago Filmmakers and rotsa Universities - there's plenty of alternative screenings here, no complaint there at all - I'm mainly kvetching about the general release offerings, which the general public are exposed too, which is largely pablum. You could also argue that pablum is what the general public supports/demands, but that gets into a chicken/egg type speculation.

I miss all the thrillers of the 90s. I doubt they will ever make a come back 😕 people are too used to cgi films these days rather than an actual story.
