There are some interesting solar system formation theories in which Jupiter plays a huge part - one of them being that Jupiter was in early days near to the Sun and swept out most of the nearby material, then migrated outward, after which the (uncommonly small) rocky interior planets formed from the non-volatile material left behind - our planetary arrangement, based upon what has been observed among other stars, is very atypical (weird) :
