What do you consider to be a fair price for a celebrities autograph?

I have none myself but I saw that Spacecon has a few celebs I like (MEW ❤️) so I was wondering how much they charge... these are the prices you pay;

Ewan McGregor - $225
Hayden Christensen - $150
Rosario Dawson - $125
William Shatner - $120
Gina Carano - $100
Katee Sackhoff - $100
MEW - $80
Ray Park - $80
Giancarlo Eposito - $80
Michael Rooker - $60
Ahmed Best - $50

They seem pretty expensive?

If you want to get your photo took with McGregor & Christensen (together at the same time) it'll set you back $460.

Imagine being a Star Wars fan and you have to put up with Hayden Christensen being in those movies and you even have to pay to get his autograph.

reply

Imagine being such a big Star Wars fan that you'll cough up $460 to get a photo with two actors from the movie. You'd like to think the people paying for that are wealthy but you know there will be some nerds blowing their entire pay check to get a photo with Obi-Wan and Anakin/Darth Vader. If it makes them happy I guess...

The only celeb duo I'd be willing to pay $460 for a photo with would be some combo of Dua Lipa, Gal Gadot and/or MEW. Even then they'd have to be stripping down to their thongs and sandwiching my face between their asses for me to be paying that much for the experience.

Apparently during conventions, paying for autographs are supposed to cover the costs to use the venue. I don't know if it's true though, but that's what I heard.

reply

I paid around $2-3 to get an autographed photo of Batman (Adam West) at a convention when I was a kid. People have become too greedy.

reply

Z E R O $

I never understood autographs so maybe that’s just me.

reply

Agreed, I have a few but got them for free. I wouldn’t pay a dime tbh.

A little over 20 years ago, one of my co-workers back then knew Dirk Benedict and got me an autographed picture of him for $20. I thought $20 was highway robbery back then (She told me she would get an autographed picture of him, but never mentioned the $20). 😀

Of the ones you mentioned, I really like Michael Rooker a lot as an actor, but I wouldn't want to pay $60 for his autograph. I'd love to have a short little conversation with him... but I hate to think of what I'd get charged for that! 😀

reply

These autographs are in person at a convention, you get to select an 8x10 inch lobby card from their table for them to sign for you. So you'd likely get a brief conversation with them, like maybe a minute or two.

reply

OK, thanks for the clarification. Quite honestly, $60 wouldn't be too bad (IMO) for someone like Michael Rooker. I wonder how much he'd charge for a photo with him? I'd rather have that than the autograph! And I'll take the photo myself! 😀

I think Eric Clapton used to offer (not sure if he still does) a deal where you could meet him after a concert, but the price was really outrageous (well into the thousands, if I remember correctly). As much as I love his music and guitar playing, there's no way I could ever justify paying that, not as a husband with three boys.

reply

The charge is $75 for a photograph with Michael Rooker.

I'm not sure who is in charge of the pricing... probably half the convention and the celebrity (or more likely their representative).

The price seems to increase due to the level of 'demand'. The more popular stars cost more. Also Mary Elizabeth Winstead is $80 for an autograph whilst asking only $85 for a photo, a $5 jump as opposed to Rooker's $15 dollar jump.

Ewan McGregor who is the most expensive celeb at this convention is also charging a $15 jump from autograph to photograph.

Photographs are definitely better value I'd say.

Thank you again! While I definitely think $75 is not cheap, it is something that I would consider in Rooker's case (unlike the case with McGregor and Christensen...I think $460 is outrageous). I tend to believe that you are correct about the reasons behind the pricing also (good ol' "supply & demand").

I hope this isn't veering into "off-topic territory," but, in September 2002, I paid $700 to attend a 4-day "guitar camp" with Jorma Kaukonen (lead guitarist for Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna) at Jorma's Fur Peace Ranch. I got to spend 4 days with Jorma and he taught our class several songs/techniques of his. While $700 was definitely not cheap back then, I think it was well worth it, because that experience improved my guitar playing so much. I always toyed with the idea of going back, but his prices really skyrocketed over the years (I want to say it was over $2K earlier this year... he's actually no longer doing it, as of earlier this Summer).

Also, being in Columbus, OH, we have a lot of former Ohio State football players that do the "meet & greet" events from time to time. I've never gone, but there are a few players that I would consider paying decent money to see.

Thank you again. I think it's an interesting topic and it is interesting to see the price discrepancies between the actors and actresses.

Just a couple of days ago I listened to a podcast where Michael Rooker was a guest. He seems like a great guy, he had some really fun and interesting stories about his life.

reply

Cool! I thought he was great in "Mississippi Burning" and "Eight Men Out." He's had such a nice, sustained acting career and agree that he seems like he'd be a great guy to listen to some of his stories.

reply

Well those prices are greedy and they should be ashamed

McGregor is gouging his fans and he’s a millionaire. Total BS, I wouldn’t pay a movie star anything but then I’m not an autograph seeker.

I was going to say zippity do dah for celebrity autographs, but then realized that I did pay for an autograph once.

My wife is 62, and when she was a little girl, she watched H.R. Pufnstuff - one of those odd Krofft brother shows. There was a character named Witchypoo, so I looked the actress up (Billie Burke) and she was still alive and had a website, and on the website, she offered one of several different publicity photos of herself in costume for a donation to an animal rescue charity she supported. So I sent her a donation in October and a week before Christmas the pic arrived (I included a note saying I would love to have it for Christmas).

My wife was thrilled with the pic and has it hanging in our game room.

An autograph at a reasonable cost is a nice gift, especially if the money was going to charity!

reply

Wow, Jack Wild's been dead 18 years...

reply

These autograph prices are probably a result of trying to get people to stop selling their celebrity autographs online.

Personally, I think they should be free but rare and a privilege, if only.

Considering how volatile acting is as a career, it seems reasonable on their end, but I wouldn't pay for an autograph.
