I think they're cool, and I even let a monkey in a cage hold my finger, but I've also heard horror stories about monkeys and non-human apes...so I don't know exactly how to feel about them....

I really have only encountered Panamanian White-faced Capuchin monkeys, Vervet monkeys, and Baboons. I think in the wild they are kind of cute. I do feel sorry for them as humans have moved into their environments, but as a human in their environment, I'm not really a fan.

I love monkeys and apes more generally and wish I could have one as a pet; unfortunately, they are wild animals and, as you noted, often act accordingly. Maybe in the far-off future, some will be domesticated and be able to hang with us, but that will most likely not be in our lifetimes. ππ΅
