Last night we watched The Haunting (1999) with our 10 year old daughter (my wife’s choice).

On our continuing mission to ease our daughter into the Horror genre, she now knows what I mean when I say that her mother ‘loves crap horror films’.

Please god don’t let her take after her mother in this respect.

I see you're ramping up the horror. Alien > M3GAN > The Babysitter > The Thing > The Haunting... wise decision, each movie better and scarier than the last.

I wonder what horror movie you'll show her next...

reply

I was thinking of Poltergeist (1982).

reply

A great choice!

reply

Thanks! Not gory, not too scary, but quite suspenseful.

reply

Have you introduced her to 70's Horror yet??

reply

No, but now you’ve got me thinking about some classic Hammer House of Horror stuff 🤔

reply

I feel like 70's horror is better than anything we see in modern day due to the practical FX used in the movies back then, they also created very good atmosphere as well

reply

They play the original 1963 film on TCM once in a while.

reply

I will look out for that, thanks.

reply

"Deep Blue Sea" next.

reply

Too scary for a child, he should show her Jaws first to test the waters.

reply

"Deep Blue Sea" is comical nonsense though.

reply

I don’t think it’s that scary, more than it’s not that good - Jaws on the other hand 🤔

reply

That’s a ‘we might round to it one day’ film.

reply

But it's got Saffron Burrows in a bra and panties. Well, that's maybe more for you.

reply

I think of it as a Christmas movie but check out Gremlins.

My sons loved watching Gremlins when they were kids.

reply

Kids love Gizmo!

The only caution required for Gremlins is the fact it reveals that Santa Claus isn't real.

reply

Yes. I forgot about that part.

reply

Yes. I forgot about that part.

reply

Yes. I forgot about that part.

reply

Yes, we did Gremlins I & II a couple of years ago.

reply

Bad story, wonderful production.

The house was the only cool part.

reply

It was a typical ‘crap horror film’ that my wife is well know for liking.

reply

Sounds like she enjoys 13 ghosts too.

reply

Funnily enough, my wife suggested it for a future watch.

reply

I loved the original. It was, in its era, pretty creepy.

reply

I haven’t seen it, but will get round to watching one day.

reply

Good strategy.

In a age of horror, get that kid used to it early.

reply

She’s been pretty cool about them so far. I think she just accepts that it’s all made up nonsense.

reply

Don't show her Hereditary. That'll mess her up.

reply

I’m no expert on horror, so I appreciate the heads up.

reply

You should watch it yourself though. Very good horror movie.
