reply

Ah you finally got to Futurama. What do you think of it?

Signed, million man.

reply

I binged from S1 and by the time I’d completed S11, S12 had started. I am now completely up to date with the new episodes, but will wait until I’ve watched all of S12 before I claim to have finished it.

When it’s good, it’s very good, but there are a lot of episodes that are so-so. Overall, I’d give it 6.5/10, which is not bad.

Gen V season 1 - Honestly better than I expected. It's like a CW teen drama but actually good.

Alice in Borderland season 2 - Can't believe it took me THIS LONG to watch the second season. Excellent show.

Barry Season 3 & 4 - Finally finished the show. Hands down one of the best things to come out in recent memory.

My co-workers were watching Deadpool & Wolverine on 123 Movies. Sort of depressing how movies only last 3 weeks now before heading off to Streaming world 🤔 In the meantime, I watched 3 movies:

1. John Carpenter's THEY LIVE on Blu RAY

2. SILENCE OF THE LAMBS Criterion Collector's Edition on Blu Ray

3. PRISONERS with Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal which was very intense and depressing

reply

It's not on streaming and won't be till the end of September or very early October.

If they're watching it online they're watching a shitty camrip or telesync (a camrip taken from the projection booth with audio captured directly from the source). They used to be absolute dogshit quality back in the day but I haven't watched one in a longtime, perhaps with the cameras of today they're passable... especially if you don't give a damn about the quality.

That sort of thing has existed for a long time, ever since people had handheld cameras and snuck them in to theatres (I know of people who did that back in the early 2000s) and isn't related to the increasingly short windows of theatre exclusivity.

Disney as a studio give their big releases like D&W a 60 day exclusive theatre run, which is one of the longest presently aside from individual cases like Christopher Nolan and Tom Cruise who demand control of when their movies head to streaming and will often keep them in theatres for a very long time.

reply

Yeah, the Quality was shit and I don't think they cared. I couldn't watch something like this without a crowd

reply

I SAW IT AT THE THEATRE....IT WAS SO AWESOME I GAVE IT A LOW QUALITY REWATCH AT HOME.

I'm doing a Rebecca Hall watch through, that's one of the ways I navigate movie and television viewing. Select a director or actor I like and watch through a batch of their work I haven't seen before, I do it for numerous people often, normally watching about 5 of their movies before moving on to other stuff, then several months later deciding to watch another handful.

Starter for 10 (2006) - A fun little comedy-drama. It has a great cast of talented British actors who were unknown at the time. James McAvoy and Benedict Cumberbatch alongside the aforementioned Rebecca Hall. I enjoyed it quite a lot.

Holmes & Watson (2018) - A silly comedy with Will Ferrell, John C. Reily, Rebecca Hall & Ralph Fiennes. Eh, it's 3.9 on IMDb is pretty harsh but it's not great. A 5 is about right, it's not boring and a few of the jokes land but it's nothing special, still the cast is good and it was nice seeing them together.

Lay the Favorite (2012) - Rebecca Hall stars as a softcore stripper who gets into sports betting. Bruce Willis, Catherine Zeta-Jones & Vince Vaughn also feature. It's 4.8 on IMDb is crazy low. This is a fun indie style movie that has a great cast, I think some of the backlash is due to the $20 million budget (which doesn't show on screen because it went to the cast, the production values are minimalist) and the fact it has a lot of big stars but is at it's core a light drama. People were expecting something different and grander.
