I'm doing a Rebecca Hall watch through, that's one of the ways I navigate movie and television viewing. Select a director or actor I like and watch through a batch of their work I haven't seen before, I do it for numerous people often, normally watching about 5 of their movies before moving on to other stuff, then several months later deciding to watch another handful.
Starter for 10 (2006) - A fun little comedy-drama. It has a great cast of talented British actors who were unknown at the time. James McAvoy and Benedict Cumberbatch alongside the aforementioned Rebecca Hall. I enjoyed it quite a lot.
Holmes & Watson (2018) - A silly comedy with Will Ferrell, John C. Reily, Rebecca Hall & Ralph Fiennes. Eh, it's 3.9 on IMDb is pretty harsh but it's not great. A 5 is about right, it's not boring and a few of the jokes land but it's nothing special, still the cast is good and it was nice seeing them together.
Lay the Favorite (2012) - Rebecca Hall stars as a softcore stripper who gets into sports betting. Bruce Willis, Catherine Zeta-Jones & Vince Vaughn also feature. It's 4.8 on IMDb is crazy low. This is a fun indie style movie that has a great cast, I think some of the backlash is due to the $20 million budget (which doesn't show on screen because it went to the cast, the production values are minimalist) and the fact it has a lot of big stars but is at it's core a light drama. People were expecting something different and grander.
