Singers Last Songs

What songs do you think could quite nicely be the last song of a singer - I'm not talking about the last song they ever recorded but a song that could be their farewell song, a bookend to their career.

I'll start with a few and you see what you can come up with:

John Anderson - I'm Still Hangin' On

Johnny Cash - Ain't No Grave

John Lennon - God

John Prine - When I Get To Heaven

And yes, I just realized everyone on of these fellows is named John : )

These guys did it just right. Interestingly enough, I believe this was also the last time the entire band recorded together.

No better way to finish it up.....

Shirley Bassey - This Is My Life

I’m a big Cash fan, this seems an appropriate final song for him.

I really need to find a lucid biography of the man. He had a lot of flaws but his voice and writing are pretty much unmatched. The guy is a legend and I love his music.

Al Green - Let's Stay Together

Frank Sinatra - My Way

I came here to say "My Way"πŸ™‚

I started doing that tune myself in my solo acoustic incarnation and I realized right away that it absolutely has to be a set closer, there's no way you can fire up another song after that one!

Yep, that one is a no brainer πŸ‘

Personally, I'd go with this one for Frank's last song:

I've Been To Town

It's from an album called A Man Alone and man, that's a great album - if you haven't already, you should check it out.

Very nice. I've definitely heard the name Rod McKuen, and looking him up, I didn't know just how prolific and popular he was, and the drubbing he took from critics. "The most unforgivable sin in the world is to be a bestselling poet," he quipped.
