A movie lover's recollections

My parents helped to instill a love of movies in me when I was young. Not just new movies, but older movies also.
Now, in the twilight of my life, I have found that love of film has been a friend who helped me through tough times and gave me joy in the good times.
Though there have been stinkers in all decades of film, movies have always been a haven for me from life's troubles.
Anyone else feel the same way?

🙋‍♂️ Same.

reply

Sure.
I love crime thrillers, mafia films and horror movies. Not that I try to hurt people or steal stuff, I’m honestly very square and avoid any sort of drama and violence.

But nearly everything I watch and read is heavily laden with violence.
I wouldn’t hurt anyone but Hollywood violence is just fine escapist fun.

George A. Romero felt the same way.
In an interview many years ago, he said he was a person who hates confrontations, but, at the same time, puts characters in his films into confrontations, at times very extreme confrontations.

Romero is dead, he was a big loss. I think only Peckinpah, as ugly as his movies could be, knew more about men than Romero.

Men are complicated beasts, we want to tear the jungle down, tear every ape and cheetah a new blowhole, kill and kill again!

Now introduce a good woman, a couple of babies that WILL replace you, a tidy house to tend to and you just robbed the savage jungle out of the man.

I know, women bitch and moan about being women. Try being a man…Fighter, protector, decent husband, kind guardian to baby kids..?
It’s a real high wire with NO net.
