Wisconsin

A family we know will move to this State, at least for the next three years. What can you tell me about Wisconsin?

reply

It has more letters in it's name than Utah.

reply

Amazing!!

reply

This is true and possibly very useful information! I would add that Iowa contains fewer letters if that’s of any use to the family in question.

reply

😲 I will inform them immediately, they need to know this.

reply

I’ve never been out there but from what I’ve gathered if they like beer, cheese, Harley-Davidson motorcycles and extreme weather they will thrive.

Bring swim trunks and a heavy parka.

reply

As a German family they will not have problems with beer 😉. They have already attended a match of the Milwaukee Brewers.

reply

My only concern is that they are German and so will likely be greatly disappointed with American beers.

Europeans and Aussies think our beer is weak and perhaps they are right.

reply

Let's see.
From my side, I think that Budweiser has a good taste although it is very light.

reply

It is light.
I can drink pretty steadily on an off night and the American beers don’t hit very hard, after a dozen bottles maybe I have a buzz.

Liquor is quicker👍

reply

😅 After 3 or 4 local 🍺 I am ready to sing Karaoke.

reply

My voice is horrible!
You’ve got big balls lol🎱🎱

reply

The weather hasn't been as extreme as it used to be. In recent years, it's become fairly common for snow to melt not long after it falls. Last winter was the mildest one I can remember. Highs were above freezing more often than not.

reply

"Highs were above freezing more often than not."

Where do I sign?

reply

Which part?

reply

I do not remember the name of the town, but in this moment I think it is very near to the border of Illinois, but I will check.

reply

I grew up in Wisconsin and my family lives there. I live in MN now.
The crime rates are higher where they may be (Milwaukee and Chicago have a lot of transitory criminal activity between the two). Kids have decent colleges there. The camping and fishing are really good. The taxes are better in WI than MN and IL. Gun purchases and hunting are reasonable.

Prejudice is not uncommon. My family came to the West border and people liked my Dad's Austrian Accent but did nor like him as a foreigner.

Churches tend to be protestant. You'll find Catholics options are reasonably available. The Muslim communities are pretty nice and I reccommed spending time in Amish country.

Winters are awful. German Winters are a little nicer. The brewers suck. The Packers are the primary football team. If one likes the vikings or bears, they better be ready for some colorful languages and give it back.

Gossip can destroy a family. That's not uncommon and they should expect that if they hear about someone else, that person speaking will gossip about them the same.

Drinking: wisconsin has the highest rate of binge drinkers and the lowest rate if alcohol related accidents. Most people walk to the bar as they are readily available.

I hope this helps your friends.

Oh yeah, getting work on a dairy farm is good for teenagers. Be sure to drink plenty of water during bailing season.

reply

Thank you, a lot of information. I have checked it, they are going to be in the south, very near to the Illionois State. I have watched the map a little bit, in the near there is a city called "Hanover".
You have spoken about your father, sprechen Sie Deutsch?

reply

Ein bisschen.
It was encouraged that we only speak English. My mother was trying to keep us from more ridicule in our town. It did not work.

reply

My grammar still sucks. Lol

reply

Ich finde es gut, dass du jeden Tag Deutsch lernst.

reply

A lot of these things depend on where you live within the state. In my part of the state, there's a pretty large Catholic population.

The Brewers have been playoff contenders for the last five years or so, which is an accomplishment considering what the economics of Major League Baseball are like. Small market teams are at such a huge disadvantage.

reply

I hear ya. Appleton, Milwaukee, Hudson, River Falls, and their surrounding areas are very protestant. We lived in town that was 30 miles from any Catholic church. So, Lutheran it was.

For so many years, Bob Ueker was the major draw for the brewers. I actually like them more than the twins, but that's because the twins stole so much from tax payers.

reply

"That 70s Show" took place there.

reply

A well known show, I guess?

reply

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic.

reply

No, not at all. I have read a little bit now about it.

reply

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be rude. It was a big show and wasn't aware how old you were.

reply

Everything is fine. I think, this show was not big here in Europe...

reply

I'm European, that show was awesome!

Danny was recently sentenced to lifetime in prison for raping the Mars Volta's guy's wife

reply

Ok, from my side I have not watched or heard about it, until now.
Where are you from?

reply

Not familiar with Milwaukee, but I lived in Minnesota (neighboring state) during the 1990s and Wisconsin is a nice place to live. Minnesota is famous for its cold winters, and some of that is going to carry over into Wisconsin, depending on where you are.

I recall that a favorite holiday destination is Wisconsin Dells.

reply

Nice 👍

reply

My Sister lives there with her husband and two kids. I like to think of it as my home away from home and try to visit whenever I can. It has the most diary farms than any state in America. They have great cheese there and lots of beer. There's tons of lakes there just like Minnesota. I've never been there in the winter.

reply

" they have great cheese and lots of beer" a good reason to visit them one day 😉.

reply

Tell them to get ready for rusty cars. Maybe they're in the rust belt already, but vehicles there, especially newer models with thin sheet metal bodies, don't last. Problems come up more often, parts that can typically be reused when doing work such as bolts and lines become more expensive because removing them often equates to destroying them since they are frozen with rust, and the frames start rotting out from underneath within a decade.

And word to the wise for anyone not living in Wisconsin or the rest belt, don't ever buy a used car that has spent any significant amount of time there.

reply

It produces gentlemen like Jeffrey Dahmer and you can visit Norway without leaving the state.

reply

" you can visit Norway without leaving the State" how is that?
