I don't know why I keep putting myself into these tough situations. On one hand, I give her credit for doing drama and comedy, but on the other hand she has never made me laugh. 5/10 to be safe.

Comparing actors who do very different types of work is almost impossible. It's like comparing street food with haute cuisine, or action blockbusters with indie dramas. I think you have to rate actors based on their category and what they're trying to achieve - to judge them on their own merits. As an actor overall, comparing her to Olivier, de Niro and Streep, McCarthy is a 3. As a comic actor, when range, believability and emotional expression aren't important, she's a 7. Likeable and funny, but no Groucho Marx.

I'm not comparing anyone. It's just how much you like this specific person as an actor. You can use whatever metric you want.
