🎥MovieChat MovieClub Event: Friday/Saturday Features #45 🍿

About this weekend’s 4 picks; The first pick is a mix between Valley girls and Once bitten. The second pick is a DVD I’ve been meaning to watch and when I saw it was on Tubi I saw it as an opportunity to watch it with you. Saturday is a Netflix combo special: The third pick won’t need captions BUT you won’t listen in the original language and nor will I! Finally we’ll close the weekend with a M Night Shyalaman film. Should be interesting and make for good times!

This Movie Party will allow two things to happen:

-people will be able to watch the same movie at the same time and interact here
-people will be able to have common movies to watch over the weekend and share reviews on my other weekly thread.

Event #1 - Friday night, April 12th 9PM Eastern time (if you want to watch live) and event closes Sunday at 9PM (if you haven’t been able to watch live and want to share reviews in the weekly thread.)

reply

This movie is so LA Art Deco. The buildings I mean.

reply

I've never been to LA but the weird thing is it always looks like the nice neighborhoods are rife with crime there. The neighborhood in Boyz N The Hood looks completely decent...cute little houses, small yards, plenty of parking.

reply

That is what it's like here. LA is like a huge suburb and some of the areas that look like they could be Mayberry are high-crime areas, like Compton. There are really nice suburbs too, and urban inner-city areas that are crime-ridden too of course.

reply

That's messed up.
When not even Ice Cream men are safe in the community you know things have gone off the rails!

reply

LOL! Crime here is actually way lower than it was in the 70s and 80s. But actually, I don't think I've seen an ice cream man in years.

reply

We had a nice old guy for years but I don't recall seeing him last summer. I think covid may have screwed up a lot of things and as you said in a different post, the kids are not outside as often as we were...sad really.

reply

That beardy guy in the backseat has a WWII German gun LOL.

Where does an LA gangbanger get one of those? It's probably worth more than anything he's capable of robbing:)

reply

That PD secretary is rocking some big sexy hair!
That is all.

reply

Last summer the ice cream man came around my neighbourhood, and I went out to get one, and was greatly amused that a bunch of my neighbours came running out too, and besides me they were all over 50. It was kinda cute

reply

I just posted above that I don't think I've seen an Ice Cream man in years and was about to ask if they still exist.

Kids don't really play outside so I wonder if adults are the target market now??

reply

I remember being a kid and other kids used to come around on the bike ones. I think too many of them got robbed.

reply

60s and 70s cars were waaay cooler looking than the crap they produce today.

reply

THEY KILLED THAT LITTLE GIRL......SENSELESSLY

reply

Carpenter got into a lot of shit with the critics for that scene. I saw an interview where he said the reason he made 'Starman' was because he was getting a reputation for being disturbed because of movies like 'Halloween' and the scene of the girl being killed in this film.

reply

Well she was complaining about the flavour. I mean really. He did tell her he wasn't open.

reply

Yeah. "Fell down"

reply

Carpenter has since said that the character of 'Napoleon Wilson' in this film is essentially a proto-type of the Snake Plisken character that Kurt Russell would play in 'Escape From New York.' I always try to imagine Kurt Russell in this film ever since reading that.
