This Beyoncé country nonsense

It’s obviously a publicity stunt. Like, who gives a fuck? She’s not a country singer.

What?
Link please, sheesh dude.

Beyoncé is a superstar so she doesn't need to pull publicity stunts. She just wanted to try something different. I'm no fan of country music but I do see Beyoncé's appeal with her new album. If you don't like it then don't listen to it. Problem solved. Oh, millions of Beyoncé's fans give a fuck.

I don’t follow this shit, so I don’t know, but Beyoncé feels very 20 years ago to me, like, she was big in my day. Is she still considered relevant?

reply

SHE IS NOT RELEVANT IN MY WORLD...MARRYING JAY-Z IS THE LAST THING I HEARD ABOUT HER BEFORE THIS.

reply

I love the old country stuff a lot!
Willie, Dolley, Cash, Jennings, Cline... All great music.

I have respect for Beyonce, her voice is really great.
Plus, she is super hot.

I guess I'm searching for sexy Beyonce videos online now, no worries, there are only about four thousand. I'll be back in a couple minutes.

Is this a traditional "old-style" country album, or is it a "modern-style" country album? (i.e - trap beats, rapping, with a hint of traditional country instrumentation like acoustic guitar, lap steel, etc) My guess, given the artist, is that it's the latter.

I'm not a big fan of Queen B, nor most "modern" (so-called) country music, so this isn't really my wheelhouse.

reply

My guess is it's a modern style country album but you can't be critical or gatekeep or risk being called a racist. Black Privilege at its absolute worst.

reply

There are plenty of negative reviews for Beyoncé's new album and they have nothing to do with racism. It looks like you are the one who is racist.

I’ve noticed pop singers like to go rock or country when they want credibility. I’ve heard the Miley Cyrus Beyoncé song and Miley sounds perfect for country of course, Beyoncé sounds out of place.

The lead single seems to have done ok internationally (scroll down): -

I agree with you even though I have not listened to the record. I think Beyonce is an aging R&B singer desperately trying to remain relevant in the music industry.

I know very little about this. However, it doesn't take too much googling -- you can literally read the wikipedia page for 'Cowboy Carter' -- to see Beyoncé's relationship with country music.

In short: she's from Texas -- so she inevitably heard this stuff growing up. Especially as one her grandfathers seemed to be a fan.

Apparently she did a bluegrass-inspired version of one of her songs in 2007 and has performed with The Chicks. She released her first original song that could be called 'country' eight years ago.

She obviously has a long-standing interest in this genre and she's long been in a position where she can do what the hell she wants in her career. No-one's going to stop her. But from my understanding, Cowboy Carter isn't really a country album. She hasn't turned into Johnny Cash.

From wiki:

Cowboy Carter blends various genres including pop, opera, house, Jersey club, classic rock, hip hop, blues, soul, rock, rhythm and blues, zydeco, bluegrass, fado, go-go, funk carioca and folk.

She's evidently a woman of eclectic tastes, as most musicians and people who are interested in music tend to be. I'm not sure whether that mix works or not, but can't see why any of that makes it a 'publicity stunt'.
