Beyoncé is a superstar so she doesn't need to pull publicity stunts. She just wanted to try something different. I'm no fan of country music but I do see Beyoncé's appeal with her new album. If you don't like it then don't listen to it. Problem solved. Oh, millions of Beyoncé's fans give a fuck.

Is this a traditional "old-style" country album, or is it a "modern-style" country album? (i.e - trap beats, rapping, with a hint of traditional country instrumentation like acoustic guitar, lap steel, etc) My guess, given the artist, is that it's the latter.
I'm not a big fan of Queen B, nor most "modern" (so-called) country music, so this isn't really my wheelhouse.
My guess is it's a modern style country album but you can't be critical or gatekeep or risk being called a racist. Black Privilege at its absolute worst.

I’ve noticed pop singers like to go rock or country when they want credibility. I’ve heard the Miley Cyrus Beyoncé song and Miley sounds perfect for country of course, Beyoncé sounds out of place.

I agree with you even though I have not listened to the record. I think Beyonce is an aging R&B singer desperately trying to remain relevant in the music industry.
shareI know very little about this. However, it doesn't take too much googling -- you can literally read the wikipedia page for 'Cowboy Carter' -- to see Beyoncé's relationship with country music.
In short: she's from Texas -- so she inevitably heard this stuff growing up. Especially as one her grandfathers seemed to be a fan.
Apparently she did a bluegrass-inspired version of one of her songs in 2007 and has performed with The Chicks. She released her first original song that could be called 'country' eight years ago.
She obviously has a long-standing interest in this genre and she's long been in a position where she can do what the hell she wants in her career. No-one's going to stop her. But from my understanding, Cowboy Carter isn't really a country album. She hasn't turned into Johnny Cash.

She's evidently a woman of eclectic tastes, as most musicians and people who are interested in music tend to be. I'm not sure whether that mix works or not, but can't see why any of that makes it a 'publicity stunt'. share
