Beach Town Residents Paid $600,000 for Sand. Much of It Was Washed Away.

Mother Nature said "No sand for you...."πŸ˜‚

The owners of beachfront homes in the seaside community of Salisbury Beach in northern Massachusetts spent nearly $600,000 to have about 15,000 tons of sand dropped near their properties to protect themselves from future storms.

But the Atlantic Ocean had something else coming. The high tide and winds that pounded the area Sunday washed nearly half of the sand away, mere days after it was placed.

Oops! Sounds like someone there didn't do their homework before bringing in the sand!

I got a more ridiculous and pricey one...I give you 'The World' archipelago in the UAE. The last update in Wikipedia timeline section was 8 years ago. It will eventually be swallowed up by the sea.

Wow, never heard of this. It's quite impressive and also a tremendous waste of a billion dollars.

From the article you can see near it is another development like it where people actually live. And yes, it has some problems.

Did they consult a landscape engineer?

I was expecting a samoanjoes joke here.

See what you've done to me samoajoes - I'm in an almost constant of disappointment with each thread.

Bastard.

It's less than $1 billion but way more than $600k...

It's unclear to me if the project will cost $14 million, $23 million, or something else. And now news about Taylor Swift!

This year's budget for City of San Clemente is $138 million.

No matter what Mother Nature always wins.
