The "big one" is just a big tease. (Not that I don't think it will happen, but it could be 100, 200 years from now or more.) But if it stops people from moving to paradise, believe it! Also, they've been reinforcing old structures and all new structures are built with enhanced earthquake "buffering" capacities, so I can't imagine there will be destruction on the scale of 1906. I think the city is safer than some East Bay or South Bay areas.
