Do you think America is the greatest country in the world?

Yes

reply

Something to consider. If The US was suddenly wiped out. the WORLD would be devastated.

reply

Would it? I mean there would certainly be some massive implications, especially for Canada. But I don't know if the world would fall apart.

reply

Think about all the things the US supplies to the world. Food, technology, science, medicine, equipment, resources, etc.

reply

A lot of manufacturing is done outside the US, and while the US might be the largest exports of some food products, there are other countries which could pick up the slack. I mean, don't get me wrong, there would be extreme shortages for awhile, and I know my country (Canada) would absolutely be devastated, and would most likely collapse just as quickly as the US, but I don't know for sure that the rest of the world would be as bad.

They very well might be as bad, and obviously the political landscape around the world would change, maybe for the better in some places, and worse in others? But I do think that in some of the places who could pick up the exports could do better than they are now depending on the type of government they already have. It could also force other countries (first world) to amp up their own manufacturing, and providing for their own people without having to rely so much on global trade. Do I think this is a good thing? Maybe not, but there are countries who could do it.

That being said, I do not wish for the collapse of the US in any way shape or form, as it would certainly change the world in a dramatic way.

reply

Also consider the HUGE amounts of money the US gives to the rest of the world.

reply

Yes, but again there are a lot of first world countries that the US doesn't give any foreign aid to, nor is the US the only country who gives foreign aid.

Again, I'm not trying to downplay the importance of the US in the world, but...I do think that there are places who would survive the demise of the US. I know my country won't as I've said before, but there are places that aren't as closely tied.

reply

Hey ssissg, going off the rails briefly, were you the one some years back who detested Mason Jars being used for everything? I’m attempting to recall. Sorry folks. Now back to the subject at hand.🫣

reply

That was not me.

reply

OK, thanks! I “seen” it somewhere.

If the US were suddenly wiped out, Macron's wet dream of a unified EU military force would finally come to fruition. The EU would then step in to fill the void, assuming the role of the world's policeman and leading the charge in the West's economic battle with China. The UK would surely play a role too, but they would be riding shotgun.

I suspect it would speed up the UK's inevitable return to the EU. Presently, it's still not politically feasible for mainstream politicians to start talking about reversing Brexit, but polling shows that most of the country now considers it to have been a mistake. We're probably still ten years away from being able to openly start that discussion.

But a material change -- such as the US leaving Nato or significantly downgrading its role -- would concentrate minds.

Yeah. This is already kind of happening in non-military matters. For example, it's the EU that is leading the way in regulating (American) tech companies, by legislating where the USA has singularly failed to do so. Europe is already moving culturally and politically away from America, because -- well -- frankly -- America is a basket case at the moment, its reliability in question and its influence in decline.

Not terminal. Yet. But the EU is certainly starting to think about what it can do as the world's biggest trading bloc and that it might have to defend itself without assistance should the post-war global order break down.

America is a basket case at the moment

🤣😂🤣😂 That made me laugh harder than it should have.

reply

Yes, I was born in this country a poor child of immigrants running from communism and became a millionaire at age 22. God bless America 🇺🇸 🦅 🫡

reply

Vietnam ?

USSR and Yugoslavia

reply

Thanks

reply

Spill the tea, how did you become a millionaire by age 22? And don't say you worked hard because lots of people work hard, so it had to be more than that.

reply

Gambling, big risks bring big rewards

reply

Congratulations. Lots of countries allow gambling though so I'm not sure why that makes the US the greatest country.

reply

High risk investments is how you make real money, casinos are for chumps....

To put it in a nutshell Hitler would have won WWII if it hadn’t been for the United States. He was taking over all of Europe & Briton. And we were fighting two theaters. Our naval force was almost completely decimated. Granted there are times when we stuck our nose into situations instead of letting the people of those countries fight their enemies just as we did “In Order To Form A More Perfect Union”. We became occupiers instead of being only advisors in those countries.

reply

Yea the WW2 puts it into perspective

the top of the pyramid always gets what they want and the bottom 80 or 70 percent are slaves that's a plutocracy NOT a democracy!!!

We have too much lobbying and quid pro quo from cpac in election to have any real fair election system in the country. CPACS aren't free speech, it's buying politicians

reply

It's too corrupt

reply

Spending money from CPACS is not free speech

It's corrupt

reply

How can we call ourselves a democracy when cpacs spend money on political candidates?
that's not free speech to influence legislation and lobbying

, we are a plutocracy by those standards

Media never shuts up about our democracy when it's misleading from American propaganda
American exceptionalism

I’m not going to delve into your comments here on the General Discussion Board. You are now deep into politics, so your comments belong on the Politics Board. Take them there.

Before you go, (and don’t let the door hit you on the arse), we are NOT a Democracy. We ARE a Representative Republic. It was a democracy that chose to execute Christ.
