“My favorite show is The Twilight Zone”
What type of person do you imagine?
shareA boomer
shareA person who is likely a bit older but has very good taste.
That was a really great show.
A boomer who likes awesome shows and is most likely a Star Trek fan as well.
shareHe's talking about you, hownos.
shareI might be. I didn't know Hownos was a trek fan.
shareHe only likes the original series.
shareI like TOS and TNG.
DS9 was ok but it never resonated with me like the first two.
Voyager I've only seen a few episodes.
I saw TNG as a kid when it was first on air. I decided to watch every episode in order last year. I'm done with that and am currently doing the original series and DS9. I plan to get into Voyager and finish it off with Picard. I should be done around 2027.
shareWow! You're dedicated. I'm a huge Trekkie but had to eventually ditch Voyager and DS9 for bring faux Trek aka: not Gene Roddenberry utopian - bright sets, positive, cerebral, fun.
You're missing Trek series Enterprise, Discovery, Strange New Worlds and all the movies.
And Trek-like Galaxy Quest and The Orville.
“ faux Trek aka: not Gene Roddenberry utopian - bright sets, positive, cerebral, fun.”
This is exactly how I feel about those shows and new trek as well. I miss the optimism and positivity, and the sense of exploration.
Have you watched Strange New Worlds?
I watched the first season of Strange New Worlds. It was ok, not great. Watchable. I plan to see season 2.
2 1/2 stars out of 4.
But, The Orville, especially first two seasons, is more traditional Roddenberry Trek-like to me. I just pretend it's Trek, but the starship is called Orville. Cerebral, light, social commentary, daring, very good scripts, wonderful characters. Very strong recommend if you're a Trekkie.
3rd season becomes more serious, but writing is excellent. 4/4
I might watch all those new series, but I'll probably be Trekked out at that point. So far, TNG is still my favourite by far.
shareThe original is my favorite and then TNG - both created by Roddenberry himself.
In lieu of new Trek shows, try to watch The Orville which was created by Trekkie Seth MacFarlane. The captain allowed movie night on the Bridge using the large screen for viewing while the crew munched on popcorn. Also practical jokes and office gossip. Orville = "Enterprise" ship as a fun place to work.
I really don't like MacFarlane as a person and as a showrunner.
shareThe Orville is awesome, but if you don’t like Seth MacFarlane as a person, you probably won’t enjoy watching a show where he is the ship’s Captain.
That said, I’m curious—what is it about Seth MacFarlane that makes you dislike him as a person?
The fact he thinks this is funny: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2LCw_Atq9g
His comedy in his movies and shows seems like how he is as a person.
Ugh...that was cringe.
His frat-boy vibe, at least that's what I call it, can be a little much.
He seems to have matured with age and there isn't much of that in Orville.
Same here. I couldn't care less about him or his other shows. Neither do I like the guy. But, he knows how to do a quality Trek show which is easily as good as ST:Original and ST:TNG.
I hope you'll change your mind and attempt to watch one episode. BTW, some Trek actors direct or show-up in episodes, too.
I wouldn't waste my time watching the new trek shows, maybe SNW, but the rest can piss off. Even Picard 🤢
shareI'm watching Picard for sure because it'll close off the Picard and co. storyline, but me watching the other shows is not set in stone. I know AndyKing likes Strange New Worlds.
shareI would give SNW a watch, season 1 wasn't bad.
Picard was terrible. Good luck soldiering through that one lol.
I have it downloaded for when the time comes, but I went through it and doesn't look good for the first two seasons.
shareIt's darker. But, it has more Trek elements like plot, species and former cast members which may be the reason I liked it. I thought the second season was better than the first.
I haven't watched the third yet.
You should check out Outer Limits 1995 version. I've been watching season 1 and 2 of that. Really Good.
shareA man with a talent for putting words into other peoples' mouths, whose life has been as drab and undistinguished as a bundle of dirty clothes. A bookish little man whose passion is the printed page, who has a preoccupation with another time, a time of childhood, a time of growing up, a time of street games, stickball and hide-'n-go-seek.
Time Enough To Last...
My favorite episode of them all starring Burgess Meredith!
The Shatner episode on the plane was pretty great too.
👍...in fairness to the character (Meredith's) I should note some of the description is others

shareAn awesome person.
On an unrelated note, that's one of my favourite shows - all versions, with the exception of the last.
I wouldn't say boomer the show is timeless, anyone with good taste could something like this...
shareIntelligent, cerebral, philosophical. Great taste in TV shows.
Seriously, who doesn't enjoy Twilight Zone? It has to be among favorites on most people's list.
Most likely a bit older, but whos to say. Its a maseterpiece, watch it every year on new years, im 35...so who knows.
