They had to change all of the data entry year digits from two to four on my job - 11/05/98 became 11/05/1998. They thought the computers would implode when the new millennium started.

Yeah, that was the main issue. They believed the computers would think 00 in 2000 would be 1900.

They took a lot of time and money to make sure we did. The only major event that I heard of was some nuclear power plant in another country. The plant operation itself was updated perfectly but all the external radiation sensors turned off at midnight.
