Rant that I hope helps aspiring models

I just saw yet ANOTHER movie where a hopeful young model is being counseled by an allegedly knowledgeable older woman, who tells her, “You have to shoot a better portfolio.”

A MODEL DOES NOT BUY A PORTFOLIO. A MODEL ACCUMULATES HER PORTFOLIO FROM JOBS SHE HAS ALREADY HAD. Fucking period!!

Yes! I know that’s a “chicken or the egg?” dilemma for aspiring models/actresses/celebs. It’s also the reality. Business truism: “It’s much harder to GET the job than it is to KEEP it.” We’d have models up to my scrotum if it were easy.

Too many young women, and probably saps like Tickets, think they can walk into a bogus photo studio and strut out with their bona fides. Does not work that way. A reputable, getting-you-work-and-not-turning-you-out (on the street, on your back) agency will ONLY look at payed work. Women also need to be at least 5’10” tall. If you can’t do runway, they won’t want you.

Yes, you know a “petite model.” She works at Arby’s and her bf rides a bicycle.

Do not believe the movies. Modeling is as tough a gig as there is. Eschew bullshit.
