shareMel’s Hole lol
That cover looks good actually.
I didn't know anything about Mel's hole. I don't think my shoddy cover would do any good. Lol.

This is 5 Hours long and well worth a listen if you have the time.. I'm a big fan of this show along with George Noory too
Nice! It's good to keep things covered for winter. I have the same basic little pit, an easy build and fun to use.
We get ice and snow here so I wrap mine in a plastic tarp to keep the blocks from working loose.
I had fun with build. I drilled a fire ring to attempt to make it smokeless. Big fail.
I had to pull it apart today and remove about 60 LBS of junk from it. It's next to our sledding hill, so hopefully we can have a fire while we watch our nieces and nephews biff it.
I used several spacer bricks to make 'vents' in the base row of blocks to allow an updraft and carry the smoke high up and away. This partially worked but not a perfect solution.
I feel like I'm always sitting where the smoke is directly blowing no matter what I do lol.
I guess it's just part of outdoor wood burning.
well done
shareI live in the suburbs. I have no clue what's that?

shareWhy cover a fire pit though? I think they look rather charming.
shareI live in Minnesota. We have a long snowy cold winter ahead. By covering it, it should reduce snow and debris from filling it.
We have friend's kids, nieces, and nephews who sled the hill next to the pit. By keeping it covered, we can open it up and set a fire for the kids and us adults to warm ourselves by it.
i thought it was a well.
