What did you breadwinners watch this week? (11/12-11/18)
Phew! What a week! Work, kids, wife, church, restaurant, parents, gaming, hockey and MOVIES!
Ginger snaps 2: Unleashed (2004 DVD): The first one was a bit more colourful and light while this one was more dark, grim and sinister. While the first one was a metaphor for coming to age and menstruations, this one was about drug abuse, mental illness and suicide. Heavy but I’m. It complaining, I enjoy heavy stuff sometimes. One thing that made me sad was the fact that we don’t get to see much of Ginger with. Her 3 minutes screen time. At least we got an angry werewolf and even if we don’t “see” much of him either he’s still quite frightening. I also love scenes taking place in asylums so I was pleased on that aspect. If you think the one we saw in Ice cream man was scary, wait till you see this one! The Canadian winter settings and cottage house also made for a great atmosphere. All things considered, it’s a very good film and a solid sequel. Ghost was a great character played by a great actress and the ending was epic! My rating: 7.5/10
Dungeons, and dragons: Honor amongst thieves (2023 Netflix): Some parts were very entertaining and bursting with creativity while others were more forgettable. I liked Chris Pine in Star Trek but this, not so much. Chris Pratt would’ve been better. The ending was cheesy and funny. I had a good time. My rating: 7/10
Transformers rise of the beast (2023 DVD): Although I am one of the very few fan of the Bay movies, it was refreshing to have a new director and different looking transformers. I had a lot of fun watching it, there’s lots a good action and could even say it exceeded my expectations. My rating: 7.5/10
Bellflower (Friday night special): This movie’s cinematography gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Like a flamethrower under my ass. The soundtrack did help too. Yes it was slow, weird, low-budget and somewhat frustrating with its plot device but I understand what they wanted to do with this cinematic experience and I don’t think they failed. My rating: 6/10
My bloody Valentine (Friday late night special): First time seeing it since the theatre. In 3D both times! Oh yeah. I think I enjoyed it even more this time at home. The 3D does elevates my rating a bit. My rating: 7/10
Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie (Saturday night special *4 cups of baileys and 1 beer in and 2 beers and 6 cups out): For making me laugh, I give it major points. For failing to keep my full attention and focus it loses some too. I missed a few scenes and don’t really care. What I saw though, was unique and fun nonsense. I’m Tom Green’s biggest fan so absurd humour is no stranger in this house. My rating: 5.5/10
Rats: night of terror (Saturday late night special *3 beers and 8 cups of baileys in, too many to count out): Too dark, too blue, too drunk. I just couldn’t… I tapped out 1h in. I tried finishing the last 30 mins the day after and was like, WTF is this?? My rating: 🐀 🐀 🐀 🐀/10
