It's amazing how long Matthew Perry lived as long as he did.

I just watched a Youtube video on his addiction which was quite severe

His story is the reason why I will never take prescription opiate pain killers from a doctor or a dentist. It fucks you up and ruins your life.

What if you need major surgery? Advil ain't going to cut it.

reply

What type of surgery are we talking here? If its wisdom teeth extractions, ibuprofen and Tylenol together should be enough.

Anything invasive with a long recovery time. Wisdom teeth removal is pretty easy pain wise. Ibuprofen is fine most of the time unless the tooth is impacted.

I think people greatly underestimate ibuprofen 600mg/800mg. It's an anti-inflammatory unlike opiates.

Also, if it's more severe procedures, you can take Toradol (Ketorolac) which is basically stronger ibuprofen. Just have to be careful not to take it too much of it because of stomach ulcer issues.

Oral Ibuprofen didn't even touch my pain when I had gout in my knee and ankle at the same time. Neither did a corticosteroid injection. I didn't realize pain like that existed. It was pure, unrelenting agony. Had my doctor not prescribed me pain medication, I would have had to call an ambulance to lift me out of bed and transfer me to the hospital because I was completely immobilized.

I had double knee surgery this year... I only took the aspirins for the blood clots, and Advil for the swelling pain. The prescribed naproxen and oxycodone...didnt take either of those.

reply

It's good you didnt require anything stronger than NSAIDs👍

Opioids are best avoided, but you'll be glad they're there if you truly need them. Thankfully a lot has changed in the last decade and Doctors are very reserved about prescribing them.

reply

They aren't pain killers, they only kill the sadness of feeling the pain. I also had a best friend die of a heroin OD because he could no longer afford the designer, prescription versions...

reply

Sorry to hear that. Sadly, it's all too familiar because I also lost a best friend about 6 years back. He turned his life around, was clean for 2 years and had one slip up during a weak moment. That one slip up killed him.

reply

Fuck man, that hurts. I lost my bro in 2012... Whats crazy if had been able to stave it off a few more years, he may still be around now that Narcan is pretty widespread in use. I'm not sure it even existed back then.

Only if you let it. You have control of your life, no one else.

Signed, million man.

You can't choose to get addicted to a highly addictive substance unless you actually take it.
