I can't believe it that De Niro never played true heroic character in Scorsese movies..

It's without doubt best director-actor collaboration od all time. And we all know that Scorsese like to create his characters in grey zone. And we know De Niro US master at playing dark characters.

But wouldn't be nice if we had De Niro as hero. Im sure Scorsese could think something.

I don't consider any character from Scorsese movies played by de Niro as hero. Travis Bickle is closest and yet he is violent psychopath. Rupert Pupkin? Sam Rothstein? Nope.

Yeah, never thought of that.

But I just came to say Hi lud! πŸ‘‹

Hi, Stone.

Nice to 'see' old guards still active.

He's never played a likable character imo.

Midnight Run

Casino

Awakenings
Silver Linings Playbook
Sleepers

Oh please! He was not likable in Casino! Everyone in that film is a jerk. I admit I haven't seen those others.

reply

Yes,I agree. But, Rothstein wasn't really gangster or abuser. He was simply talented gambler and was throwed in this world. He didnt hurt anyone who didnt deserved.

reply

Hard to weigh in on his career when you haven't seen so many of his movies. He was nominated for Oscars for 2 of the 7 you haven't seen from that list.

And 15 Minutes as well

COP LAND (1997)?

James Mangold directed Cop Land

De Niro always seemed best as a gangster and the Mob movies are Scorseses' wheelhouse.
Glad those two guys met, we got a lot of great movies out of them working together.

ONE more Martin and Robert movie would be more than icing on the cake, the cherry on top but I won't be greedy.
