How do you rate TV shows?

For example, a show has 5 seasons, the first 4 are amazing, but the fifth one is rubbish.
Do you: -
A. Rate it highly because when it was good, it was very good.
B. Take an average.
C. Rate it poorly because that was your most recent experience.

reply

I rate individual episodes as that is how I keep track of what I've watched. I lose track too easily. If there's a way to rate individual seasons I am ignorant as to how. And when all is said and done and watched, I give the show an overall rating, but do admit a lousy finale can leave a bad taste in the mouth, so I try to correct for that, unless it's just egregious, then I might deduct a point.

reply

I tend to binge things and give a rating at the end.

reply

B. I average them out.

reply

I do that too for the most part.

reply

The first one that comes to mind is Lost - I would have to rate "B" because even though it started out great, it quickly went off into left field. I was starting to lose interest at the end of season two and definitely stopped watching after season 3.

reply

I hear this a lot about Lost.

reply

I'm so glad I never watched Lost, so many huge fans were like 'with' was that ending? Evidently a LOT of questions and storylines were left hanging in the final season.

reply

My rating of it would go down a bit. And I'd probably not rewatch it as much.

A bad final season & a bad ending would just leave a bad taste in my mouth.

reply

This seems to be the general consensus.

With numbers.

reply

Some use letter grades.

reply

Yeah, but I prefer numbers. Letters are a weird rating system.

reply

A?

reply

You're being Canadianist. And it's "eh".

reply

A, eh?

reply

A.

What comes to mind is Curb Your Enthusiasm, Westworld, and Downton Abbey. All fave series of mine that to one degree or another went downhill. But "A" is deserved IMO.

reply

Even the best football team in the world doesn’t win every match.

reply

It depends on how bad some of the seasons or finale are.

For example let’s say I have Game of Thrones rated at 9/10 then started to watch the final season. I would be inclined to deduct 2 or 3 points because the final season is so bad.

How I met your mother is another one with weak final seasons as with Breaking Bad especially the finale.

reply

I still rated GOT highly because it was a superb series. Also, I didn’t mind the ending as much as a lot of people.

reply

I go with A.
The Simpsons is a classic example. Over half the series is trash but its legacy shouldnt be ruined because of what it became although you could consider it as two separate shows after the 90s.

LOST is another. Great series, final season was trash but its still my favourite show of all time.

reply

I completely agree.
