I'm not very good at rating things to be honest. When I really like something I tend to get overly enthusiastic and ignore some faults.
For instance, The Wire and Game Of Thrones were two terrific, nearly perfect series yet both had somewhat shaky final seasons but I still appreciate all the entertainment they gave me. I suppose a 9/10 would be appropriate for those shows but dammit it all, I want to give each show a Gold Star of excellence even though they sort of staggered to the finish line.
Roadhouse is another example. Patrick Swayze kicking the shit out of hillbillies in a ridiculously lawless town with his sidekick Sam Elliot, aka 'The Toughest Bouncer In America' lol, would seem like a big swing and a miss but hells bells was that a great fun movie or what!?!
I think I'm not disciplined enough to be a fair critic, I consider Conan The Barbarian (82) to be one of the greatest movies ever made and NOBODY would agree with this:(
I guess I just hype the stuff I love.
