Larry David Considers Doing the Unthinkable With Rebooting SEINFELD

https://screenrant.com/seinfeld-reboot-show-plans-creator-response/

I didn't realize that the SEINFELD Finale was that Divisive among the fans?? I thought for a 1 hour episode with getting every major star to juggle their schedule to be in the Finale was pretty amazing in it's own right?? Sounds like expectations were simply too high and never would've pleased everyone?? What do you folks think?? Reboot or leave well enough alone??

If it was the same cast, I'd watch it.

List of television reboots that came out decades later that were equal or superior to the original run:

Battlestar Galactica

reply

I'll give you that, but season 1 of the new Battlestar Galactica isn't season 3 of the original.

reply

Even the new show itself fell off the longer it went on but it was still a really good reboot imo.

reply

Actually I suppose you could maybe say Star Trek: The Next Generation, but that's more of a completely new show that acknowledges the other series.

reply

I've never seen any of the Star Trek shows except for Discovery season 1.

🤣

I have seen most of the films though & would love to watch Next Generation someday.

reply

Oh dear!

reply

I would've genuinely loved 'em IF I was exposed to 'em growing up. I was a HUGE sci-fi geek in my teen years.

But literally none of the shows were on tv where/when I was growing up.

Some of the films would come on tv every once in a while (Especially The Voyage Home & First Contact) but that was about it.

reply

My ‘oh dear’ was more directed at the fact that your only exposure to Trek is Discovery - it’s the worst entry in the franchise I’m afraid.

reply

Kinda figured. Watched it cause it was sci-fi & I love that shit.

But I barely managed to finish the first season. That was like 4 years ago.

I never went back.

reply

I watched it all for completeness and it wasn't all bad, just incredibly annoying at times.

The current show Strange New Worlds is very good and tries to capture the spirit of the Original series. At only 2 fairly short seasons, so far, I highly recommend it.

reply

Putting it on the watch list.

I was told by a couple of people to check out Seth MacFarlane's The Orville because "it's a love letter to Star Trek".

Don't know if that's true or not but I've seen the first 2 seasons & it's a damn good show.

reply

It’s on my watch list 👍

The article references Seinfeld's comments about working with David in some type of manner on the ending. David doesn't even have any comments in the article so who knows what they have planned. Maybe a 10 minute short or commercial like they did before? A reboot is a far reach I think.

"The co-creator and actor wouldn't offer up specifics, per TVLine, but noted: “Something is going to happen that has to do with that ending.” He continued: “And just what you are thinking about, Larry and I have also been thinking about, so you’ll see… you’ll see.”"

If they could bring everyone back in a full fledged rebooted series, I would definitely watch it though.

The finale was pretty disappointing and seemed lazy. Just a serious of cameos of characters celebrating the past success of the show. It felt more like a montage or summary of the entire series than an actual episode. I don't think it could have ever met expectations, but it certainly was not received well.

THE FINALE IS WELL KNOWN TO BE HATED...EVEN DIE HARD FANS WERE ITRRITATED BY IT.

reply

I think Curb your enthusiasm is a good enough replacement for Seinfeld. If you want to bring back the actors, bring them back there.

reply

And it did include a story line for a few episodes about a faux Seinfeld reboot with the main cast. That was good enough for me

reply

Yah! I thought that pretty much WAS the Seinfeld reunion. An ingenious way to pull it off. It worked.

reply

Didn’t they say it was as close as we were ever gonna get?

reply

Yep

reply

Totally agree here. A failure of a reboot would be horrible

reply

I had no problem with the Finale, but there was plenty of criticism about it from critics.

I doubt they can recapture the magic. Leave it alone.

reply

it's too late. they had their chance and blew it.

It really worries me that our society can't produce anything new. if you look at every decade, especially in the last century you know which decade it is just by looking at the type of movie or music, fashion, looks...

For the last 10 years or more our society has produced nothing new, every film is a remake, every tv show is bringing something back. seinfeld is supposed to be a genius, he can't come up with something new? something groundbreaking? why is everything a remake, a reboot?

I'm not going to get into politics, but i think it's a product of a society that isn't free anymore, has no personality or character and that's more than obvious when you look at choices made politically.

Stranger Things, Chernobyl, True Detective, Breaking Bad, BCS, The Boys, Vikings, Black Mirror, Peaky Blinders, Westworld (so different to the source material it may as well be its own thing), Money Heist, Squid Game, The Last of Us (based on a 2010s video game), Dark, Mr. Robot, Homeland, Ozark, Ted Lasso, The Umbrella Academy, Succession, Euphoria, Big Little Lies, Person of Interest, Fleabag, Black Sails (loosely based on Treasure Island, but a huge reimagining), Severance, The Expanse, Bodyguard, The Bear, Penny Dreadful, Carnival Row, Barry, Orphan Black, The Morning Show, From, The Americans, Beef, Maid, See

I mean how long should I go on for? These all came out post-2010 and are either based on new material, or based on books that are alsot post-21st century.

Music is way more diverse than it ever has been in the 20th century.
