Slasher or supernatural horror?

I'm a high kill count guy, so it's gotta be slasher for me.

reply

Slasher. It's more scary because it's more realistic

reply

That's how I feel. I don't find chairs moving by themselves all that scary.

reply

Supernatural. More realistic.

reply

most slasher movies are not horror.

reply

Hard to say. Really depends on the movie.

Wouldn't most slashers be supernatural too though? Like NOES and the Jason movies?

reply

It's not supernatural if they die at the end of part 1.

reply

It really depends on the movie, but I think I prefer Slashers.

Despite the low budgets and cheeziness of some of them, as allegories, Slashers are more realistic and relatable to me. The idea of an unstoppable killer that keeps coming after you no matter what is a lot like how life can be so unrelenting and difficult at times, and life just keeps throwing problems at you no matter what you do.

I don't believe in magic/religion/supernatural stuff, so movies like Exorcist and those types are so outlandish I can't relate to them.

Not to say they're bad movies, they're not, it just makes me like Slashers a little more.

reply

I also like seeing the ridiculous ways they bring killers back for the sequel.

reply

And the hot girls. Let's not kid ourselves lol.

reply

Slasher by a sizable margin.

reply

I really thought more people would say slasher.

reply

Slasher! (Preferably from the '70s/'80s)

reply

Slasher, coz it's basically horror and mystery combined and mystery is one of my favourite genres, and makes one of my least favourite genres, horror, more bearable. Supernatural elements usually make horror movies scarier, which is not for me.

reply

I find slashers scarier because they're more realistic and easier to feel like it could happen to me.

reply

Maybe I find them more palatable because I focus intensely on the mystery part and just block out the horror part. But it could also be that I'm mentally converting them into a survival guide the way most girls do with serial killer documentaries - because as a young woman who lives alone, I agree that a lot of slashers feel quite possible.

You guys watch horror for the realism? Lol

Give me fuel, give me fire, give me that which I desire – Which is ghouls, ghosts, spirits, demons, monsters, sinister influences, doubt, confusion, ominous music, slow pans to dimly lit corners revealing The Spooky Thing.

I do enjoy a bit of carnage, but I just don’t find slashers in general all that interesting or scary. Though I do like a slasher themed horror comedy/parody type deal when I come across one.

I guess my tastes skew more towards the fantastical.

Also, you can’t 👏 punch 👏 ectoplasm 👏, so how are you gonna fight a ghost? I sure don’t know any Latin incantations!

reply

The realism puts me in the situation easier.
