Cornwall holiday update - Today I crossed off St Michael’s Mount castle from my bucket list!

We took the boat over to the island, but when we returned, the tide had gone out allowing us to walk along the causeway. I’ve always wanted to go there - Brilliant!

Did you go at low, mid, or high tide?

reply

Mid tide on the way there, low tide on the way back. It was perfect weather too.

reply

Sounds wonderful!

reply

It was the experience of having to get a boat there, but then being able to walk back - fantastic day!

reply

Looks like some place I'd go.

reply

YUP...MONSTERS DO OFTEN LIVE IN CASTLES.

reply

You wouldn’t enjoy it in the Summertime. It was a perfect day for me yesterday; sunshine and blue skies.

reply

Correction: I wouldn't enjoy anything in the Summertime.

reply

Not even the song ‘In the Summertime’?

reply

Hell no. Terrible song.

reply

Wow, gorgeous!

Q: Where is St Michael’s Mount?
A: In the stables

reply

Ta-Daa!

reply

I am deeply envious!

Gorgeous place, I've always wanted to visit there, and then Mount Saint Michel!

Best I've done is walk across the natural low-tide causeway in Bar Harbor, Maine. Just a natural gravel bar that leads from the town or Bar Harbor, to a nearby island. I got an hour on the island before I had to walk back.

reply

That must be the causeway?
Another cool photo

reply

That looks like there was a natural Bar Harbor-style causeway, a gravel bar at a convenient depth, and they added a stone roadway so wheeled vehicles could pass.

I'd love to visit, spend a lot of nice quiet time in the British Isles, with some definite time on the Dorset and Cornwall coasts.

reply

We did see some cars parked in the island (people live on it), so the causeway is car worthy.

Dorset, Devon and Cornwall are great places to unwind. Dorset is the only county in England that does not have a motorway in it (Trivia Andy).

reply

Great pic!

reply

Yes, Mount St Michel looks cool too!

reply

It looks like Mont Saint-Michel - even the name is the same.

reply

Having done a bit of research I genuinely thought there’d be a bigger connection, but apparently not 🤷‍♂️ (I’m not convinced - it can’t be a coincidence).

reply

I was surprised - had no idea St Michael's Mount even existed. They're like twins.

We were supposed to go to the one in France when we visited the Normandy landing beaches but never made it because of some car issues - which is another story for another day. Funny now, but it wasn't at the time.
