Not just Huskies but any cold weather dog has got to be absolutely miserable living in a warm place. The owners of these dogs are who we should blame/shame. They are either ignorant or just too fucking dumb to understand these animals were not meant to live in California, Texas, Arizon, Florida. If you own a Husky and live in a place with warm weather, you're a scumbag.
I really like dogs but a Husky needs a lot of area to roam. I only have slightly over an acre of land over here so a Husky is not my pick of dog. They are real beauts though!
At a nearby rescue shelter I got a Mini Aussie Shepard, she’s incredibly agile and so fast you can’t hardly see her when she bolts across the grass.
She’s very small, only twenty three pounds but boy is she alert and protective!
I sleep easy with this little yapper, one would have plenty of time to grab a rifle and a handful of shells while this little black girl is barking and pacing if some poor doomed fool tried to break in.
Huskies originated from Siberia and they have thick double-layered coats. When the weather goes to negative degrees, Huskies are completely comfortable.
We actually did just fine with a husky/shepherd hybrid we rescued in Texas. We just made her an indoor dog and only took her outside for extended periods of time when the weather cooled off. That, and if she had to go out during the hot season, we'd only let her out long enough to use her gigantic bathroom (AKA, the backyard) before getting her back inside. We had a similar setup with the husky we rescued and adopted after the hybrid cutie passed away. He too was an indoor dog, but he did very well in northern California. Our climate up here is mild enough outside of summer that huskies do just fine, though it's still advised to keep them indoors during the hot months.
Now So'Cal or Florida, I can get what you're talking about. In that environment, I would keep a dog that was slender with smooth, light-colored fur, but whoever it was, they would still be an indoor dog for health reasons (protection from extreme heat). Not that I'd live in Florida or So'Cal anytime soon.
Hey, wanta know what's the perfect dog for a hot, humid environment? Try the Xolo (pronounced "show-low") from Mexico!
I was 26 when I first came up with that name on another site, and no, I'm not. I have family problems at home and haven't been able to see anyone in a while.
