What was the first film you remember crying at?

All Dogs Go To Heaven 🥺

Mine goes way back - the movie version of Carousel was released in 1956 and I probably saw it for the first time in the early 60's when I was a teen. I cried at the ending, which I think is beautiful, and every once in a while I watch that scene on Youtube and still get teary eyed.

Awwww 🫂

Is it a love story? I've never seen it.

reply

Yes, but it is a fairly dark story for a musical. I love Rogers and Hammerstein - my favorite is The King and I and that ending also makes me cry.

reply

It's a very dark story and quite sad, but the music is GLORIOUS. FYI the "Carousel Suite" gets airplay on classical music radio stations, and when it's on I always stop what I'm doing and bliss out.

The Elephant Man (1980)

"Bambi"...saw it in the theater as a kid in the 70s.

reply

I think it was The Champ.

Lili (1953). Saw it when I was around 6 years old. Don't recall the specific scene that made me bawl. Certainly the score helped accentuate the sentimentality.

Edit: I think it was the end of the movie, happy ending.
