reply

I wish Tom Hanks a lot of luck. He really deserves to win.👍

reply

He seems to have been on autopilot last few years. I can’t imagine he would need to work at all so why make crap films/ give half hearted efforts.

reply

He has 3 chances this year.

reply

It's a little bit interesting that Blonde is the most nominated but Ana de Armas has been overlooked for this particular award. I don't know if I'm more or less inclined to watch it now.

reply

Blonde has the most razzie nominations, but Ana De Armas will probably get an oscar nomination.

reply

WHICH IS BIZARRE BUT FAIR...AS SHE IS REALLY GOOD AND EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE MOVIE IS NOT.

reply

You were right - must be a strange kind of film.

reply

and she did for some reason.

reply

With that accent she had in it, I'm surprised she wasn't nominated here.

reply

I SUPPORT THESE NOMINATIONS...WITH THREE EXCEPTIONS...STALLONE,HANKS...AND WHO THE FUCK VOTES FOR A CHILD FOR A RAZZIE?...THAT'S KIND OF TWISTED.

reply

I don't like kids getting nominated either. It could hurt their career as it's just getting started. Plus they don't have the same experiences that actors who went to drama school have.

reply

Drew Barrymore agrees with you: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-64431564

Hollywood star Drew Barrymore has criticised organisers of the Razzies awards for "bullying" a child actor.

John Wilson, Razzies co-founder, apologised and said on 25 January: "Sometimes, you do things without thinking, then you are called out for it. Then you get it. It's why the Razzies were created in the first place.

"As a result, we have removed Armstrong's name from the final ballot that our members will cast next month. We also believe a public apology is owed to Ms Armstrong and wish to say we regret any hurt she experienced as a result of our choices."

reply

I haven't seen many of these. I did try and watch Blonde but it looked depressing and I turned it off. Tom Hanks was terrible in Elvis but then the whole film was a mess. Firestarter was also a terrible movie and very depressing.

reply

Normally I'd see quite a few of these films, but the only one I've seen is Jurassic World. And I've never even heard of "The King’s Daughter".

reply

I haven't heard of it either. Looks like Brosnan is now a C Grader film wise. Never heard of Good Mourning, Morbius, Mack & Rita, 365 Days, The Requin either.

reply

I've heard of 3 of those but for all the wrong reasons.

IMDb: The King's Daughter

Filming wrapped in May 2014 and a release date was set for April 2015. However a series of events starting with the studios lack of enthusiasm with the cut they were originally presented with followed by Fan Bingbing getting into trouble with the Chinese authorities for non payment of taxes had impeded this films release. As the film featured a then major star in Chinese cinema and Chinese investors stumped up 50% of the budget, her income tax issues and the negative publicity in China effectively killed her career there and with it any chance of a lucrative Chinese release. With Pierce Brosnan as the only international star in the cast and without a major studio to back the release campaign the film sat on the shelf for nearly eight years.

I'm guessing they finally dumped it in a few cinemas with zero publicity.

reply

Oh man, they had no chance.

reply

Nope, and particularly unlucky for Kaya Scodelario - must have looked like a potential big break when it was all put together.

reply

As reported on the Firestarter page, https://moviechat.org/tt1798632/Firestarter (so tcrum can find it), the Razzie nomination for the child actress, now 12 years old, was withdrawn.

https://www.joblo.com/razzies-get-slammed-for-ryan-kiera-armstrongs-firestarter-nod/

"Sometimes, you do things without thinking. Then you are called out for it. Then you get it. It’s why the Razzies were created in the first place.

The recent valid criticism of the choice of 11-year-old Armstrong as a nominee for one of our awards brought our attention to how insensitive we’ve been in this instance. As a result, we have removed Armstrong’s name from the Final Ballot that our members will cast next month. We also believe a public apology is owed Ms. Armstrong, and wish to say we regret any hurt she experienced as a result of our choices.

Having learned from this lesson, we would also like to announce that, from this point forward, we are adopting a Voting Guideline precluding any performer or film-maker under 18 years of age from being considered for our awards.

We have never intended to bury anyone’s career. It is why our Redeemer Award was created. We all make mistakes, very much us included. Since our motto is “Own Your Bad,” we realize that we ourselves must also live up to it."

Sincerely,
John Wilson, The Razzie Awards

👍🏾

reply

It's not the first time they've nominated a child. I wonder why the criticism now.

reply

The Bruce Willis Razzie nominations were withdrawn last year, when the announcement about his badly failing health came out. He was making a lot of bad films with low budgets, to make money while he still could. The Razzies even cancelled some awards from previous years at the same time, for the same reason.

reply

Yeah, I'm sure they feel bad about it now. I think they should reserve it to jerks like Harvey Weinstein.

reply

I don't think Howard deserved that. Her part in Jurassic Park didn't require a lot of acting, just running around from dinosaurs looking scared. I thought she did a competent job of it.

reply

She was fine. Not worth a nomination. The movie itself should have been though.
