Cardinal George Pell's death bothered me on account of the witch hunt he was subjected to here in Australia. He was prosecuted and jailed as a stand-in for sexual abuse of children by some members of the clergy. In other words he was knowingly stitched up for something he didn't personally do. And many people in Australia continue to be proud of it.
I was saddened by Kenneth Williams' ( Carry On ) death as well though that's going back to 1988.
I never know whose death will sadden me until it happens. Princess Diana's death didn't sadden me for example though I don't know why it didn't.

Do you know the particulars of the alleged sexual abuse crime that Cardinal Pell was accused of and then jailed for ? Because I do and I know it was made up bullshit. When Pell's appeal went up to the High Court they overturned his conviction in a unanimous 7-0 decision.

share1. The information I told you in this thread. Pell was falsely accused on trumped up charges then he was convicted and jailed by a corrupt trial that ignored the truth. On appeal to the High Court his conviction was overturned and he was released from jail.
2. A lot of people used Pell as a scapegoat. They were irrational and full of hatred for what had happened to them or what they thought had happened to others or just hated the Catholic Church for personal reasons and they wanted to make someone pay and they targeted Pell. And of all the people who accused Pell of sexually abusing children all they could come up with at trial was an obviously made up and ridiculous story of one occasion. Where were all of these supposed victims at his trial ? Why didn't they come forward ?

shareYes I don't think I would have liked Pell if I had met him although many people who knew him did like him very much. Pell was a traditionalist. He believed that the Bible was infallible, the Pope was infallible and the Church was infallible. So he and I wouldn't have got on because I don't believe any of that.
But he was arguably the greatest man of the Catholic Church that Australia has ever produced ( the only Cardinal and he rose to a very senior position in the Vatican ) and to see him brought down in such a dishonest way by such a large pack of slavering hyenas was nauseating.
I have respect for the Church when they uphold their actual beliefs, when they start going down the Woke path I see it as counter productive as they are pandering to people who won't support them anyway. So I like Pell for that, he stood by what he believed in.
shareGood point. Pell upheld the traditional Church teaching on homosexuality that the practice of it is a sin. That's why Pope John Paul II appointed Pell to be Archbishop of Sydney to push back against the gays and their supporters who were trying to use the Church to further their agenda ( gay marriage and gay priests ).
So Pell made enemies of the gays and he made enemies in the Vatican when he was appointed to clean up the Vatican's finances. There were influential people out to get him.
