Do you watch sports?

I watch hockey. My favorite team is Detroit Red Wings. I lived in Detroit for a time, so Red Wings have a soft spot in my heart. They seem to be killing it this year especially compared to previous years.

I've tried watching baseball but it's too boring for my taste.

I watch whatever they put up for free on LPGA Youtube of the women's golf tour. Usually they will have 10 or twenty minutes of highlights from each round. I used to pay to watch it on a sports streaming service but it was just three hours of live coverage of the round which is boring and time consuming. You really need the packaged highlights.

reply

Yes agreed with packaged highlights.

You know what I hate? Having trans women compete in women's sports. It's just wrong and hugely unfair.

reply

So far there haven't been any trannies trying to muscle in on the women's golf. It should be banned as it's unfair and just plain wrong.

This story disgusts me:

The only women's sports I can watch is tennis. I really dig Billie Jean King. Also, Chris Evert. The Williams sisters are good too though Serena is a bit of a diva.

reply

I used to play competitive tennis for a while at a low level back in the day. I kind of got dragged into it. I think the sport can tend to bring out the worst in some people. I always preferred golf which is a much more relaxed sport to play so long as you have some aptitude for it. Because if you don't it can be very frustrating. And golf courses can be quite beautiful places too which is nice.

I did back when they had taste, style, and class:

people pay to watch women's golf?

reply

I guess they do otherwise it wouldn't be available. Here are the highlights of Minjee Lee winning her first Major Tournament in 2021 at Evian in France:

Ah, gotcha!

Brazil v France

Brazil to win.

I’m sure one or two underdogs will progress far into the competition, but the cream will rise to the top.

They should get out the group. I haven’t worked out all the permutations, but it’s likely they’ll get πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡¨ Ecuador or Netherlands πŸ‡³πŸ‡± next - both winnable for πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ USA, so who knows.

I will be ensconced in the pub, but now it’s time to go to the gym.

reply

Not much. I have no interest until the post-season, the playoffs. More drama. Playoff hockey is my favorite. I watch the Indy 500 every year, and usually the four major golf championships, but always The Masters.

I really don't follow any sport enough to say who is the best/worst team/individual player any given year.

reply

Not really.

I used to watch football (soccer to the American users) and MMA.

Football has really fell off for me. The last full match I watched was the Euro 2020 final a good year-and-a-half ago. I vaguely follow the sport still. Check the results, league tables and follow the gossip.

I used to watch every UFC event but these days I only watch select bouts. It's similar to football that I will still check the results to keep a tab on whats happening.

reply

No. Not since I was in my early to mid teens, and even then just baseball and maybe some hockey.

reply

Mostly just the NFL these past few years.

reply

How about hockey? It seems Americans are not too fond of the sport. It's a huge sport here in Canada, y'know. πŸ’ πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

reply

Only tennis here and there. I played off and on over the years and my parents watched tons of tennis when I was growing up.

reply

Tennis was a big favorite of mine in the 1970s. Not as much now. There was just something about the players and the game back then.
