Phryne Fisher, the Australian lady detective from the late 1920s! She's AWESOME!

In the books, at least. There was an Australian TV show, but I thought it missed the mark.

Hercule Poirot (top favourite)
Sherlock Holmes
Adrian Monk

I'd like to say Miss Marple and Jessica Fletcher as well, but they're amateur detectives, not private detectives.

Robert Parker's Spenser

Thomas Magnum.

What a show!
Intrigue, romance, fisticuffs, car chases, shoot-outs, Zeus and Apollo, buddy adventures with great characters…Magnum P.I. was an event every week in my house.

Hercule Poirot - Loved the books and the show
Sherlock Holmes - Enjoyed the stories, shows, movies, etc. Hate the modern shows that piss on his legacy.
Johnny Dollar - Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar is probably my fav old-time radio show
Magnum P.I. - Loved the original show and ignored the reboot. Mad that Obama tore down the mansion!
