How good are you at Chess?
I hate this game. I know all the moves, but can't seem to figure out how to play it well.

shareNot good.
shareVery meh. I get there are a lot of standard openings and defenses that one can memorize. The end game can be fun because of fewer pieces on the board. But I am just lost at what to do in the middle game.
shareAbsolutely suck at it. A few years ago, played it a lot on my desktop version (Microsoft-always at the beginner level), would always end up losing or stalemate, even with multiple un-do's etc. Except for one time where I was finally able to get a checkmate on it (once again, with multiple un-do's,etc) Unfortunately, I didn't write down/keep track of all the correct moves I made that resulted in this victory. Also, can't remember how many pieces were left on the board. I think it was down to the King's only. I may have had one Rook left.
shareI’m not great, I don’t find it to be very much fun. Chess is simply OK.
Stratego and Feudal are better ‘war games.’
Kind of embarrassingly bad. I prefer games like stratego and risk, anyway. Yes, I'm sure they lack the depth of Chess, but I'm not a real serious game player.
shareI am a game head. Started with chess very young but hardly ever play it anymore. It has been at least 10 years since I have played and easily 5 years before that. Even though I seldom sit at a board, I play fairly well. I do not like timed chess. It favors practice and memorized openings over calculation.
Try playing a test game against yourself. It will hone your ability to think in your opponent's shoes.
9/10 game
