It's Halloween, not a fancy dress party

I hate how people just dress up as random, non-halloween themed characters and say "my Halloween costume!"

Like pretending to be a celebrity for Halloween. How is that a Halloween costume?

Or dressing up as a video game character like Mario.

I have no hate for that. It’s a night of fantasy and fun. I prefer to see a variety of creative costumes than a room full of vampires and witches. Gawd, so sick of vampires.

One of the most enjoyable costumes I ever wore for Halloween was a Jimmy Carter mask. My friends and I dressed in suits and were Carter, Bush and Reagan when we went out to the bars. I never shook so many hands in my life. 😀

If you were zombie presidents I'd dig it but no, you just played dress up.

I agree with the OP. All Hallows’ Eve, Or Samhain, is the most sacred night of the Wiccan year. We assholes have turned it into a clown show. Kind of like what we’ve done to Christmas.

Imagine that: morons thinking they are celebrating a holiday they do not even understand.

Oooooh this really bugs me too!

The whole point of little ones dressing as ghoules and witches then visiting houses is to trick the real ghosts into thinking that house has already been visited by a spooky entity and will pass on by to the next house. Same reason for pumpkins too.

When someone turns up as Elsa, that's asking to be haunted !

There's no force that can deflate the current pedestal of that holiday in basically all social circles... No one contemplates about the "point" as to why that day is Halloween, it's just another excuse to produce hype and document another "achievement" on people's socials. There's no goin back - kids, teens, adults, parents, midlife-crisis sufferers: they all can dress up as whatever and participate.

My neighborhood is one such community where Halloween kinda gets out of hand. It didn't took long for one nearby store to catch a whiff and start pumpkin out flyers (pun intended) made with an online QR code generator (free ones like https://www.beaconstac.com/qr-code-generator - I know because the owner is a friend of mine :) ) and make some profit even at a discount...

Personally, I try not to judge people all that much, at least not vocally...
