Trying To Identify A 70s/80s Movie

Hoping this rings a bell with someone. I watched it in the 80s on HBO, but the movie itself is older. It took place in a gold mining town in wintery conditions. The scene I recall most vividly has a guy holding a lantern and someone shredding his arm with a shotgun.

Anyone have a clue? I know that's not much to go on.

Never mind. Just found it. Posted too soon. It was actually the 1971 movie McCabe & Mrs. Miller by Robert Altman. While I've been aware of this movie over the years I've never made the connection to what I'd seen as a teenager in the 80s on TV, and had thought I'd never actually seen that particular Altman film. Well, guess I have. The scene I'm remembering takes place at about 1:44:18.

I’ve done that before. Thought a film was older or more recent than it really is. Sometimes our memories aren’t that accurate or we equate the time we saw the film with when it was made.

Such a great movie. A simple story (told with a different kind of narrative) about the American system.

10/10
