Did Anyone Else Find Gary Cooper Annoying

The guy was a lady-killer and screen legend in his time, but his always-tightly wound approach to every role indicated to me that's just how the guy was. He acted as himself, and himself wasn't that interesting.

Gary Cooper. Now there was an American! The strong, silent type. He did what he had to do! He faced down the Miller gang when none of those assholes in town would lift a finger to help him! And did he complain? Did he say "Oh, I come from this poor Texas Irish illiterate fucking background or whatever the fuck, so leave me the fuck of it, because my people got fucked over!"

Hey Tony. See next post.

reply

Tony was a fan, nearly every season he mentioned him. LOL

reply

Tony Soprano on Gary Cooper. I myself have no strong opinions about him one way or the other.

reply

Tony would have found me irritating.

Gary Cooper got to screw Grace Kelly when she was 22 years old and he was 53. No wonder he wasn't complaining !

reply

He screwed everybody. He was a horn-dog. That's not the aspect of him I found annoying. :)

reply

half of hollywood screwed grace kelly. big deal.

reply

GARY COOPER WAS AWESOME. NOEMOJI

reply

FUCK YEAH!!!

He was gorgeous when he was young, and tall, but what made him really attractive was the persona of a quiet, thoughtful, and emotionally vulnerable man... who was still a man of action. He played variations on a man who felt deeply, and who had trouble expressing his feelings in words, but who never let his feelings stop him from doing what was right. If only people like that existed in real life.

reply

Wouldn't exactly say I'm a fan but I've never found him annoying.

reply

No. He loosens up in Deeds, Sgt York Along Came Jones, and Friendly Persuasion among others.

reply

I think its the coyness about him that bugs me.

reply

He was b-o-o-o-ring!

reply

he was great at playing stoic - high noon/the pride of the yankees/sargent york/the westerner. it didn't translate well to all his roles.
