"An older version of me. Is she perverted like me?"

"Would she go down on you in at a theatre?"

Such thoughtful, awe-inspiring, and profound lyrics.

She was 21 when the album was released, it was recorded when she was 20. Probably wrote the song when she was 19 or 20. I think it perfectly suits the angst of a break up at that age.

reply

Hard to believe that a break-up with "Uncle Joey" could create such angst. 😜😜

reply

Wasn't she underage when she blew "Joey" at the theatre?

I wonder which theatre it was? It should be converted to a tourist attraction! "Hey everybody! It's that theatre where Alanis Morissette gave Uncle Joey from 'Full House' a blow job!"

reply

They dated in 1992 so that would make her 18. Or 17 depending on which month really. But that really doesn't make much difference.

The whole song is about irrational angst after a break-up, most of us have experienced that and thought worse. It might not be Shakespeare, but it’s honest and real. You don’t find that often in pop music.

Great vocal on that track too, I still think it’s her best song.

reply

A personal favourite of mine.

reply

"Head Over Feet" and "You Learn" are the only decent songs on that album. Everything else sounded too angsty and whiny for me.

reply

You Learn is my second favourite of hers.

Yeah angsty, but that was the style in the 90s and you can’t say she didn’t strike a chord.. she sold an obscene amount of albums. Made Madonna another several mill to stuff in her undergarments.

reply

She made "obscene" money because she was marketed well from executives and was decently attractive.

If she was ugly or a visible minority then there is no way she would've had the same success she had.

Have to be honest - had no idea what this post was about. However google is your friend and I remember liking this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mkxMJjAaEE

Thank you! β™₯
That song reminds to ABBA and their "Winner takes it all".

But tell me, does she kiss,
like I used to kiss you ?
Does it feel the same,
when she calls your name ?

You gotta admire the straight punch of it.

I always enjoyed the song without thinking about the lyrics to be honest. Now that others have pointed it out I like it more.

reply

Straight from the gut.

reply

More like from the other side of her anatomy.

reply

It's a song?

reply

Absolutely.

reply

It's completely irrational to get mad at someone for breaking up with you. They don't want to be with you and getting mad will not change that. Hello? Move on FFS!

The empathy is strong in this one... ;)
