Crazy to think what illnesses he had that made him decide to do it.

reply

Same with transgenders, such mental illness to cut off your own wee wee.

reply

This is different. He probably didn't want to suffer with slowly dying.

reply

This is true.

ALS?

reply

The article said "illnesses" so it wasn't just one.

Not sure how carefully you chose these words. To have debilitating illnesses and be that old isn't crazy, it's horrible.
I've been pondering his assisted suicide a bit. Ninety-one years old, had led a vibrant life, but with age had multiple illnesses, and also was simply tired of living. Makes perfect sense to me.
But what if you're 61? You won't get assisted suicide and you won't get help living in an uncaring world.

I meant that he was was old and it would have been a tough battle going through all of that and that age and didn't want to suffer so he decided to end his life. Maybe he wouldn't have done it in his 50s.

He was probably the best starship captain of them all. RIP

Yeah, RIP, I'm a huge fan and also "Weekend" (1967) is my favorite film of his, but he has made many other downright brilliant and even perfect classics, A Bout de Souffle, Crazy Pete, Le Mepris, Alphaville, Bande a Part (Tarantino is a huge fan and even had his err production company named after it), Vivre Sa Vie and others. :)
