Favourite Satire films

I really enjoy a good satire, and they come in every genre. Some of my favourites include

Robocop & Starship Troopers
Wag the Dog
Man Bites Dog
Life of Brian
Drop Dead Gorgeous
American Psycho
Singing in the Rain

I debated on putting some Kubrick on here, and while he has some really popular satires, they just aren't my cup of tea.

Nice to see some Christopher Guest fans, as I can't count how many times I've seen and referenced Waiting for Guffman (1996). It's part of my internal monologue. Speaking of which, did you fuck my wife? HWHAT?

Also, trying to not mention the biggies:

Nashville (1975)
The Wrong Guy (1997)
Living in Oblivion (1995)
Slap Shot (1977)
Murder Party (2007)

I think Waiting for Guffman is my favourite Guest film. I also really like A Mighty Wind.

Love 'em all, but it's also Guffman for me too, and not even close, either, though I'd seen Spinal Tap before and both in the theater.

I work in the biz and live in L.A. so rarely get starstruck, but there I was at the Hollywood Bowl circa 2000 and found myself not ten feet away from Catherine O'Hara just standing by herself, so as tactfully as possible I approached and said, WfG was one off *those* movies for me and she couldn't have been more friendly, kind and gracious and mentioned they were doing another one, which may have been A Mighty Wind, b/c all I can find in my calendar thereabouts was Yes in July 2001. She was so friendly and cute, before I realized it I invited her to join us, on our swanky cement bench seats but she was waiting for a friend. :(

Amazing. I'm glad she was friendly.
