Climate change is helping to reveal Lake Mead's secrets — including dead bodies

The megadrought plaguing the West has had a surprising side effect: uncovering dead bodies in Nevada’s Lake Mead.

The years-long severe drought, which scientists say is at least partly attributable to climate change, has caused the water level in Lake Mead to drop dramatically. In the past week, two different sets of human remains have been exposed as a result.

Yikes!

Oops, that's a big news story... but it's probably not worth paying any mind. No mind at all...

On an unrelated note, I'll be right back. Just gotta go check on something in Nevada!

I remember a true crime doc from some years back, where a retired 'legitimate businessman' was showing some journalist around Vegas, telling him various 'anecdotal and hypothetical' stories about 'the old days' 😊 At the end of the programme the two of them were looking out over the desert. After a few moments the guy turned to the journalist and said 'Y'know, there are the solutions to a lot of problems buried out there'. Roll credits.

And they expect to find more as the level continues to drop. To think this is the source of drinking water for Las Vegas...eeeww!

You do realize if you drink water that has gone through a water processing plant, you are drinking the same water that someone has peed, pooped, puked, and washed the dog in?

reply

Yes, but something about dead bodies increases the grossness factor.

One more reason cremation makes the most sense - much more environmentally friendly, but of course when foul play is involved..............
