I was on a subreddit discussing a modeling show, someone made a post slamming a model for for not supporting trans rights or some stupid like that, I gave my two cents on it (I said politics in general is dumb) and got called a troll, then got permabanned
Didn't Will Smith take politics to the Oscars? (As if it hasn't been there before). Political correctness about a disability? I guess he considers his wife's short hair a disability.
You are giving us your 2 cents about politics while starting a thread about hating it - or probably more accurately disliking those the strongly opposing views. :) I get it.
I will say that, despite having views of my own, my appetite for arguing about them, or politics in general, seems to be waning.
Most of the disputes are fake, about wedge issues anyway, rather than the meat & potatoes (whoops, there's a view - but its one i think many on either side could buy into).
But yeah, I'm kind of over it all now - no minds get changed, the arguments are usually about issues irrelevant to those arguing about them, and its just an over all bummer to get het up about stuff out of our control anyhoo.
I quit all that political stuff years ago, it’s all like two Rams banging their skulls together, just a waste of our time
The truth is the guys in power will happily grind us both up in their war machines…Fuck them and fuck that, my boy ain’t going to their bullshit war zone so their rich kids can get into the Ivy League…It’s best to just be nice to the neighbor, mind our business and keep a few rifles handy, just in case
Antipolitics is politics. It's the fundamental rule of synthesis. Try to go outside that, and you face deconstructionists like Derrida. Are you trying to tell me this is a Derrida-supporter, because I won't buy that!
I avoid discussions on politics online but I avoid discussions on trans rights a 100x more. The position that some people take there borders on complete hysteria. And too often the slightest dissenting opinion results in the person uttering that being completely vilified. Not surprised about the response you got in that sense.
Another thing I'm tired of is shops, online or brick and mortar posting signs regarding what/who they support. Who cares?!
Why do I have to think about their politics when all I might want is a coffee or book etc? It's not about me agreeing or not with the cause. It's a case of it being a personal thing, it's private. But that's ok I just don't buy from those stores*.
Same with work. Why do I have to get bombarded with the shit the company I work for supports? Maybe this is old school but there used to be absent of rules. Don't discuss politics, religion or money. Simple.
* There was a cafe down here that charged men 20%. Or whatever more because of the alleged gender pay gap. They went broke. Gotta love it.
Trans rights is like the lowest level of what we need to be worried about right now. How about education, how about mental health. This is 1 % of the problem with America right now or less .0002%.
