Subscription Streaming sites/apps

There are so many now that it’s easy to get carried away and order all of them or a lot of them. I really want Apple TV but it would have to be great for me to add it. I also want crave. See what I mean?

Who do you subscribe to?

reply

I know what you mean. I currently subscribe to: Apple tv+, Arrow, Criterion, Disney+, Netflix, Prime, and Shudder.

reply

Amazon, Discovery, Disney and Netflix plus add ons. We want crave so bad mostly for the HBO content. I’m in Canada so I’m pretty sure that’s the only place you can get crave. It’s more expensive then cable in the end of it. I like the streaming services so much better though.

reply

[deleted]

I have Crave through my cable provider. I'm in Canada as well.

reply

So you have cable too? There is satellite tv here but I don’t watch it except for sports. Just a basic package with the sports channels. I still usually stream the news.

reply

Yes, I have cable through Cogeco. I have the Mix 20 package with basic channels plus an additional 20 channels of my choosing.

reply

So many options it can be hard to decode what to watch. I’m currently watching Rosemary’s Baby on a free app I have on the Roku tv. Kinda funny with all the ones I pay for… 😂 watching for free.

reply

I was given a free Apple+TV subscription for a year, but I haven’t watched anything on there. Is there anything that you’d recommend?

reply

For movies, I would recommend CODA, The The Tragedy of Macbeth, The Sky is Everywhere and Palmer. For tv, I recommend The Morning Show, Central Park, Trying, Schmigadoon, and Ghostwriter.

reply

Thanks, I’ll check them out.

reply

i currently subscribe to:

arrow
shudder
mubi
amazon prime
criterion

i just dropped disney plus & netflix. i 'might' drop prime too. i just don't use it that much. i'll probably add netflix back ever now and then if they add enough films to make it worth a month's fee.

aside from prime, i think all the services i subscribe to give me very good value for what they cost. criterion & arrow in particular are absolutely chockfull of great stuff.

that said, i actually use the free ad-based service tubitv more than all of them.

reply

I’ve never heard of arrow that you both mentioned. What is that about? I hardly use prime either but I don’t want to get rid of it cause I have add ons too..
I also have Spotify since god knows how long. Totally will sub to that for life lol

reply

arrow is the streaming side of arrow video, which specializes in cult, 70s b-movie, exploitation, things like that. if you have any kind of taste for things of that type, it's a gold mine.

reply

Not sure I do.. some I’m sure though. Cheesy ones can be fun. Haha

reply

Arrow is mostly cult, B movies, exploitation, horror and things like that. It has some fun, offbeat weird types of films, old and new from around the world. It's only 4.99 a month, so it must be worth a look.

reply

Love old stuff, and that is pretty cheap. That’s what hooks ya is how cheap they are individually

reply

I have:

cable
netflix
amazon prime
amazon music
i also have roku and firestick which have a lot of free movie apps.

reply

I love roku tv! That’s what I’m watching now is a free app. My friend didn’t want it so he gave it to me. Lol. Before that I had my laptop hooked up to the tv so this is much better. I have an old desktop on another tv as well which is good for the all the movies on hard drives.

reply

if there's a good series on hbo, i will get crave for a month.

reply

I got it to watch Game of Thrones when you could watch it as they came out and then found I didn’t use it. I think the only reason I’m wanting it so much now is to watch the new curb your enthusiasm 🙂 cause I want to so bad!

reply

I'm in Canada and I rotate through services. Right now I have

Netflix
Disney +
Criterion
Prime
Prime channels of Stack TV (I don't have cable) and AMC, which gives me AMC, IFC, Sundance, and Shudder I think. I will probably ditch that in a month or two and go back to just shudder on it's own, not through Prime. (I usually only keep the channels for a month or so, usually when they have a sale on them, but I'm keeping Stack for now)

I just canceled
Apple tv +
Crave
mubi
Shudder

For free I use Tubi a lot, and Kino cult.

reply

I did not know you could add shudder to prime. How much is this add on? I’ll be ordering it in a few minutes just watch! Lol

reply

I have it through AMC and that's 8.99 a month, but I get AMC, Sundance Now, Shudder, and IFC Unlimited.

If you just want Shudder it's 5.99 a month.

I will say that through Prime, you don't get every single title on Shudder. I think it's like 97% but there are one or two that aren't on Prime so if you just get Shudder, I think it's best to get it just through Shudder and not Prime.

Edit;
Maybe it's less than 97%. I was just going through my list and recently added.

reply

Just so easy to order if I put it on prime lol. Lazy 😂. No good point though, the rest they don’t give you is probably the best content. is the AMC one for only those in the US?

reply

Nope, I'm in Alberta.

reply

I think every one in this thread is Canadian lol

reply

But yeah I want that now. Cheap enough too

reply

i don't believe the shudder/prime option gives you access to all of shudder's catalogue. someone may correct me on that, but i know i looked into that a few years back & at the time only about half the films on shudder were available through prime.

reply

I just mentioned that. :)

When I dropped Shudder, I went through a bunch of titles and there were all on Prime, I didn't do the whole catalogue, but the one I did notice wasn't on Prime was The House that Jack Built, and I know previously, the Hell House LLCs weren't all there.

reply

ha, we keep cross-posting. i just checked & confirmed that you were pretty close with your 97% figure.

reply

actually, it looks like sslssg is right. shudder has 570 titles streaming in canada, and 542 of them are available on prime. so you actually get quite a bit. maybe i should look into that amc package.

reply

I do recommend waiting until the have the channel sales. You can sometimes get them for 3 months at half price.

reply

i'll keep an eye on it. if the price doesn't change in a month or two, i may just opt in for the free trial period.

i'm on an annual plan with shudder & i just renewed in january, so there's no immediate incentive for me to switch over anyway, assuming they wouldn't give me a partial refund.

reply

My annual plan ended in March so I thought I'd try AMC for a bit. There are a few movies on IFC that I had wanted to watch, and did that awhile ago on a free trial, and there hasn't been much else, but I do watch a few things on AMC and Sundance, so for now it's been worth it.

reply

i did the ifc channel trial last year, cuz they had a few indie films that i really wanted to catch, but it wasn't worth maintaining. i actually didn't know that there was an amc channel on prime that covered shudder, sundance & ifc, so thanks for the heads-up on that.

reply

We are all going to be subbing to something new tonight 😂

reply

Have you seen Asylum Blackout? It's on IFC and I actually like that one quite a bit. It's not found footage, but I love the setting and I do like Rupert Evans. Not many hot chicks in it, but I think it's good. So if you do get it, put that one in your list.

reply

i haven't seen that - looks like it's streaming on plex tv, so i might watch that next this evening, or tomorrow. thanks again...

reply

Oh, I forgot I had plex as well. I don't use it often because it can't find my music library anymore and none of the fixes I've tried have worked.

reply

asylum blackout is written by s craig zahler!

he's never let me down. i even like that silly puppet master film he wrote.

i'm watching it right now.

reply

Can't wait for your review

reply

i liked it quite a bit.

reply

I'm relieved

reply

I rotate all my channels based on what looks good for the month. Right now I have Paramount +, for their series Evil.

reply

That’s what I should be doing. Drop one to get Crave for a month or something like that.

reply

I have amazon roku box, so I always add my channels through Amazon. I then go to my Amazon channels, and take off auto-renew, that way you only have the channel for a month.

reply

I do that as well. I think the US may have better channels than Canada though. Like I said in my above comment, if I'm unsure of a channel, I will also wait for the channel sales.

reply

I just like knowing that I can cancel very easily. I've been switching up my monthly channels for the last 2 years, without any problems. I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it through each individual website.

My roku channels options are...crackle, cw, pluto, peacock, tubi, hulu, apple tv, hbomax...Thats the first options on my roku.

reply

Pluto is the one with just a few channels? A lot of yours I don’t think are available in Canada.

reply

Netflix
Hulu
Amazon Prime
HBO Max
Starz
Shudder
Peacock
AMC

reply

cable (I get a great bulk discount in my complex)
HBO MAX (I get it free b/c HBO is part of my bulk package)
my local library system

that's more than enough for me since I'm always behind anyway

Also, I can't imagine this goes on forever --ie, I think the great consolidation is coming. Big fish are going to acquire little fish, or merge with other big fish to become whales.

reply

Aside from TV catch-up services like All-4 and ITV Hub it's mainly just Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Don't have nor want Dizzy Knee Plus

reply

I mostly use Disney for the starz package. I could add that to Amazon though I suppose. Right now I’m watching Stacktv on demand.
