Anyone else experience empty store shelves at the grocery store?
I'm in a suburban area of the US east coast so I wanted to see if anyone else noticed empty store shelves at their grocery store. There have been a couple of snow storms in my area so panic buying probably contributed to some of the problems.
I went to my neighborhood grocery store the other day and there weren't any tomatoes or lemons. I grabbed the last carton of eggs. There were a couple of other cartons of eggs that were partially full.
I buy a lot of whiskey and I noticed that my 1.75L bottles are out of stock. I have to drive 20+ miles to get my usual 1.75L bottles of Glenmorangie/Glenlivet/Glenfiddich.
A couple of the other stores in the area were having issues with produce so I suspect it's a problem with produce brokers and their distribution networks. I've noticed that a lot of industries in the US require a broker (middle-man) and it can cause problems. A lot of it relates to a shortage of truckers and workers partly due to covid restrictions/mandates.
