MovieChat has CURED the age-old IMDb Message Board problem: Ignoring

When I was on the old IMDb Message Boards, one of the things I really most wanted to do was to IGNORE complete morons I didn't like. Unfortunately, the programming behind the boards meant that I was constantly REMINDED that I had Ignored someone and that they wanted to tell me something. The point of Ignoring, for me, was to forget that the stupid person EVER EXISTED, so WHY FRICKIN' REMIND ME of something they said that I HAD NO INTEREST IN???

Thankfully, the coders of the MovieChat forum have wisely implemented Ignore PROPERLY, meaning that you don't see the stuff you don't want to AT ALL. Shows that the original boards were crap in every way, if they couldn't do a simply thing properly.

The problem with the ignore function is it blocks out the entire thread so you can't see the conversation that may develop below the original post. Similarly films will appear in the trending bar but the most recent post will appear to be days old. I've got a short ignore list but it's a bit of a blunt edged weapon and it's a long time since I added to it.

reply

This... Blocking everything else out is counter-productive.

reply

Says the person who flaunts having blocked dozens of accounts like it isn't an indicator of thin skin.

I actually unignored two prolific posters since their ignored posts caused threads to disappear. I would see that there were twenty posts on a thread BUT I could only see two or three of the posts. The ignore feature is a good idea but it is flawed. I've decided to give posters the silent treatment after they tick me off.

reply

I'd prefer it if instead of blocking a user it colourised or put a line through their name. So I'd know to ignore or at least not respond to their posts but could still anything that follows.

reply

Ignored

reply

Seriously?

reply

Just kidding, lol.

reply

I wish I could read your post, but I have you on ignore. And I've reported you. And cast a voodoo curse on you. Now I really like when they added the voodoo curse function on this site. IMDb never had one of those!

reply

LOL!

Voodoo dolls work! There's this guy I really hate so I made a voodoo doll of him and poked it in the chest with a needle. I swear to you the very next day he was stabbed in the heart with a knife! Granted, I'm the one who stabbed him, but the point is voodoo dolls work!

reply

You should've stabbed him with a giant needle.

Lol best post today!

😆

reply

Agreed.

reply

People who use ignore and announce they put someone on ignore are way too fragile for message boards.

reply

I wouldn't do that if message boards weren't so toxic in parts.

reply

It's on you to not let what trolls post bother you. Emotional strength is a muscle that must be built.

reply

Excellent point.

reply

No, it's a question of integrity, and a livable world. Thus, Fox is not seen on my channel lineup, and I'm the happier for it.

reply

Everyone one around here seems to love me, so I have no issues.

Actually, just took the last two people I had put on my ignore list years ago off. I have no idea who they are, or why I put them on.

reply

Thus begins the post-trump era of peace and harmony!

KEEP THE BILE IN POLITICS.🙄
