Looking for a movie (at least 30yrs old) - help needed - SOLVED by BeaSouth

Hi,

saw this movie when I was a kid. Memory might be a bit blurred, since that would be around 30-35 years ago when I saw it. But one scene (the ending?) is stuck in my head and comes up from time to time.

We see the main actor walking on the beach. Somehow he lost his family, or at least some of them - possibly killed/assasinated.
The male character narrates / has an inner dialouge about keep going/surviving. Then we see that he is watched by another man, from uphill (or from the dunes). Through a rifle scope. Implying that our main character will get killed - but it isn't shown and that's how the movie ends I think.

I'm thankful for any help.

Wow, you are good. It is exactly that movie. Always had a Charles Bronson, Michael Caine or somebody similar looking in my head. So it was Gene Hackman. Fantastic, now my mind can rest. I'm gonna try to catch the whole movie somewhen.
