I love them all, but they haven't done shit in 40 years.
shareI agree. Pretty much everything after 1980 isn't great.
shareIt seems 99% of bands/artists have about a 10-15 year span.
The least worst song on (my favorite band) Pink Floyd's "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" couldn't make it on any previous record. Zeppelin died in 80, Keith Moon died two years before that. Lennon was killed in 1980. Steely Dan was done by 1981. Rolling Stones last good album was 1981, and the best songs were from 73' and just without lyrics/vocals. Fleetwood Mac's 1979 "Tusk" was their last gasp. Eagles in 1978 (The Long Run). I don't think McCartney did a single great song after 1980, and I've listened to all his albums. The band America (and the country).
After minutes of thinking, the only thing I can think of that I liked that emerged in the last 40 years was Aki Kaurismaki, but his movies were never the same after Matti Pellonpaa died.
I listen to the 'Classic Rock' radio and streaming service for a reason Amigo
But I disagree with Daltrey, The Stones are a top shelf killer rock act, amongst the all-time greatest ever
Beatles
Stones
Zeppelin
That's the BOSS list of classic rock acts, The Who rates lower but they were pretty cool too, of course that's just my opinion, feel free to disagree
Music in general is shit today, I spent much of last night listening to 80s and 90s Rap and no Rap today can compare
Maybe all the music has been done and it's just all going to be bland nonsense going forward
I don't think it's about music, anymore. It's all image, sexuality, etc... When MTV came around, you didn't listen. When you have nothing but audio, you're paying all your attention to what you hear. But with video, even without big tits hanging out, some of the focus goes to what's happening - the brain can only dedicate so much to what's important. Personally, I just try to expand on the 60/70s, prog-rock, and just something different I find thanks to message boards, Youtube, etc.
Now, I only hear about a movie when someone tweets the President, says something about COVID, and a bunch of isms. Pronouns. But never the movie itself!
Sometimes I think these guys are just saying shit to get more attention. Surely they had these thoughts years ago. I wish I would have saw The Rolling Stones when I had the chance, but I would have rather have seen David Gilmour, but I didn't feel like driving 4 hours... My first concert was Foreigner, and my last one was America. I think someone is trying to send me a message.
It's Over - ELO (probably the third missed opportunity, but I saw their Wembley concert)
Roger Daltrey is a legendary rock singer but I disagree with him. One criticism of the Rolling Stones has been Mick Jagger's voice so I wonder if Daltrey was taking a stealthy shot at Jagger's voice while praising him as a performer. I think Jagger has an OK voice but he might have a knack for writing catchy choruses. Keith Richards is an amazing songwriter and Jagger has been attaching all his horrible lyrics to wonderful songs by Keith Richards.
shareI find the Beatles during their hippie/later phase to be pretentious. The Who were always pretty consistent. I still prefer the Stones though.
